Secured custodial storage of gold can be a problem so one must consider that as Counter-party risk by the Terms of service and reputation of the Custodian, otherwise, if you don't hold it, you don't own it.

Definitely any value that you leave under the responsibility of others carries risks. Obviously, as gold is a physical asset, keeping it in your own custody implies that it is necessary to place the gold in a secure space in your home or other property, which is very difficult to do.
