Humans often experience different kinds of happiness that swing between opposite extremes. People may be happy for one minute and then feel sad the next. Eventually, it is discovered that extrinsic objects and other dualistic goals are empty and are recognized to fuel an insatiable appetite that disturbs inner serenity.
People, therefore, usually stay unhappy with their lives since they have yet to discover how to get pleasure. This discontent sets one inside conflict and misery. The happiness people are looking for is, in fact, an unlimited and timeless kind of pleasure. I will refer to this ultimate happiness as bliss since it does not have an opposite, such as sadness, into which it can fall. Not only is all life meant for this unbounded pleasure, but it is also the root of all life.
