In my experience, humans can't be fierce when linked to our true, core selves and a source of spiritual support. When we do the work needed to develop a spiritually connected, caring adult self, we have an inner adult who limits our habits regarding hurting ourselves and others.
Nevertheless, it is widespread in our society for people to lose touch with their authentic, core selves. Given that our core self holds our intrinsic feelings of concern and compassion for others, shedding touch with this element of ourselves might trigger us to be able to harm others without feeling any pain or regret. The inquiry is, after that, exactly how do we shed our connection with our core selves?
