out of curiosity I checked the monthly rate on an apartment I rented in 2016. it was $735/month in a nice area close to the city.

that same apartment today is $1600+. how tf are people supposed to save for a house when they get slammed with rent like this?

I understand the ideal situation is having multiple incomes and a partner, but not everyone has that luxury. shit's wild.

It's the same shit here. If I leave this apartment and move in again I pay at least 100€ more. I already pay 650€ for 52qm. I live a bit outside but it would be worse in the city.
