Imagine That - Almost No One is Playing Netflix Games

Netflix Games is never going to be successful.

Netflix has been making headlines with some recent changes to their platform including fees for multiple IP's using one account. They also added a plan that's slightly cheaper and includes commercials. One thing you may not have heard about is the fact that they added games to their plans a few months ago. They have been losing record numbers of subscribers as of late due to rising prices in their plans and lack of value in the streaming service.

In a sad attempt to add value to their existing plans while jacking up the prices... They decided that the answer was to add a bunch of terrible mobile games to their portfolio of content. Look, don't get me wrong. I use Netflix almost daily, but I use someone else's account... I enjoy a lot of the content that is available on there and a lot of their Originals are actually decent. Regardless, I don't feel like I get enough value out of the platform to pay for a subscription.

In a shocking revelation, it turns out that less than 1% of their user base is playing their shitty mobile games. Hard to believe... I know. I almost shed a tear when I saw that they weren't getting a lot of traction with this... Not. It's really not surprising. When people log into Netflix, they're looking for something to watch or something to play for background noise. They're not on their iOS or Android phone looking for a game to play on Netflix.

I get that they are trying to add value to their plans to make users feel like they are getting their money's worth. This is just not the way to do that. I'd bet that 99% of subscribers either have no interest in playing mobile games or don't even know that they have access to them via their account. From a consumer standpoint, I just can't see the value in a bunch of mobile games on a movie/TV streaming platform. Not only does it not make sense, but there seems to be little to no effort put into advertising it.

If you're going to include games in every subscription, why not make that a selling point? Not just a bonus you might find out about one day if you're bored or reading articles on LeoFinance. There is no mention of this at all unless you go searching for it. There's also not a very big selection of games for as big as Netflix is, so if they're really leaning into this as they say... I hope they add more titles.

I'm not going to spend this whole article trash talking their decision to add games. Realistically it could be considered a great addition to the service, people just need to see the value. If existing users were to find out that they have access to a ton of cool games at no additional cost, it could help retention. I feel like the only notices I ever got from Netflix were that my price was increasing for no reason. I'd be ecstatic to get an email saying something to the tune of "Hey, we're sorry your price increase, but we've given you access to a suite of cool games included with your plan!".

Obviously this is still a very new addition, and if they're really serious about it... They need to get some game titles that people will actually recognize, not just a bunch of stupid random mobile games. Anyone can go on their app store and find tons of terrible games. Netflix, what I'm saying is... Do better. Make the games a focus, not an afterthought.

Have you checked out their games?

Into the breach is a good game but it's kind of weird that they have mobile games xD

I came here to say this exact thing. Into The Breach is a shining beacon of perfection sitting atop the strange pile of mobile game garbage they have built lol.

What's it like? Yeah it would make more sense to have console games

Into the breach is great. If you like tactical strategy then give it a try.

I might have to check it out. I've been getting a lot of recommendations

I didn't even know they had games. And they're losing subscribers because of the politics in their bullshit programming... they are catering to the "woke" people.. don't they know those mf'ers ain't got jobs and can't pay for their service... meanwhile people who know their sex but don't need several pronouns to describe it are sick of Netflix trying to brainwash them...

Even if I had known they had games I still wouldn't play them.

this is the sentiment of a large number of their users I'd imagine

I had no clue they even had games; too busy watching The Sandman and Borgen.

Someone told me to watch The Sandman the other day so it's on my list. What is Borgen?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Borgen is a Danish political drama. Better than House of Cards.

Interesting. Might have to give it a watch! Thanks for the suggestion.

It’s dubbed into English but also use subtitles. What’s spoken and what’s written are often not the same and it’s not always obvious which is the better translation.

Hahaha, I didn't know this was a thing!

I'm not gonna lie... Yeah, I'm definitely playing this ;)

This one actually doesn't look completely terrible

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Legit going to be honest I had no idea netflix games was even a thing till this post lol

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

you and 99% of the other users lol

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am looking for a way out of their subscription as I have people who love them in my house... But basically I have no clue what else there is. They have games? Lol. Are they as bad as half of their shows? xD

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

they're pretty awful, but hey... it's a bonus to your subscription I guess

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I had no idea that they did this. I'll take a look but I would be surprised if any of them gets more than half a second of attention from me.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

This was my reaction. I was right lol

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It was bound to happen and people tend to have short attention spans. I guess it could be different if they are monetizing it off micro-transactions but I don't really think they have that type of control to get profits from that.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I think it's literally just so they can say they have been adding value to the plans.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Useless in my opinion, tried a couple, wasn't engaged, and not nearly as good as many other sites offer. It was billed as a great new addition but in reality was massively underwhealming. With so much on offer through over sites now, Netflix really needs to raise its bar!

They definitely need to take it more seriously if they want people to be excited about it.

Although that said, Sandman is amazing, and I've been waiting for 20 years for someone to make it, so Kudos to Netflix for that, and much praise for Neil Gaimon

most of their newer content is crap ( with notable exceptions like the Witcher for example) why spend money on junk content or junk games ?

I agree, I use a friend's account

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I didn't even know they had a game which is crazy

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It's about 14 mobile games I think

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Well clearly they are useless 😆

Gave up on Netflix years ago. I'm already on the Steam Game platform. No point having a second one.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It looks like they've got their userbase wrong, again.

Lol, I'm just seeing the game button, wow. Regardless of the intent, I do feel it's a terrible idea, people aren't on Netflix to play games but to watch movies. They should try tokenizing things, that may actually up their game.

I remember discussing investing in Netflix back in 2015, when the stock price was dirt cheap. Back then, I saw through their business model, which was unsustainable without constant cash infusions from Wall St and Silicone Valley VCs. Video streaming is here to stay, yet Netflix has consistently under-performed most of the new entrants, in terms of revenue growth and customer count.

For one, Netflix is totally deb-financed. The fact that they have any cash at all, is due to their being part of the FANG investment scam, where people would just dump money into Facebook Apple Netflix and Google stock, because, stocks only go up - until they don't and they crash epicly, as Netflix's has.

Netflix has not fundamentally changed its core product offering since the beginning. The fact that I heard about their addition of some gaming into the platform over a year ago, but very little marketing and promotion of said service, tells me that they aren't actually a viable game streaming platform. They don't make the user the focus, games are not designed to attract attention, they're just an added feature with very little pomp involved.

At least they didn't flop as bad as Google Stadia, right? :D
