I was looking at the newspaper and magazine rack in a supermarket today and every newspapers' front page had the same image!
The image was similar to the one shown below:

I had never seen such a synchronised display before, but perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised because the UK Government's intended change to the country's copyright laws will affect all newspapers, magazines and online content.
The new law is part of making the UK an 'AI Superpower' which will allow the 'Big Techs' to use British content to train AI without licence or permission.
It has been said that a provision will be made for creators to 'opt out' of their content being mined, but how this would work hasn't been made clear.
It would be better to give creators the option to 'opt in'.
Even better would be for creators to be paid for the use of their content. It wouldn't have to be a large amount per browse - with all the AI bots around, it would soon add up to a reasonable amount.
In the meantime, I will have to think about how I am going to handle this on my own website and on Hive.
The vast majority of the articles on my site are free to read. I don't want to stop this, so one option would be to have a free subscription tier where subscribers would need to be signed in to read the free articles.
Handling this on Hive would be more difficult, so I am going to have to give this a lot more thought.
Do you think Hive would be affected by this law change?
If so, what could be done about it?
Some people are suggesting to add the chatgpt crawler code to the head section of their websites so the chatgpt search engine indexes it somehow. I was also thinking to do the same however your concerns are very legit.
