The Japanese secret to a long and happy life…
What can the Japanese teach us about discovering our life's purpose, living with meaning and vitality, and reaching a grand old age in tip-top health?
What a delightful book and great concept. We've probably heard it all before in a sense and used different terms, but this is a fresh look at an age old conundrum…
That is – finding purpose and meaning, living that purpose with passion and calm enthusiasm, and growing older gracefully… not only extending the years we have on this little merry-go-round, but the quality of said years too.
It's one of those books that I'd absolutely recommend. I can't see anyone not getting something out of it, and if you have an interest or like to know more about Japanese philosophies and ideas, then give it a look…

📕 'Deep Work' by Cal Newport
How do we go deep, avoid the shallow, and be productive? Let's ask Cal!
Here we have a book that it's safe to say is fundamental to any success. And if you want to do anything particularly grand or meaningful, you certainly need to get a handle on the ideas discussed here in some shape or form…
There's a lot of repeating of the same central tenet, that being staying focused and avoiding distraction which is reinforced throughout the book with examples and case studies.
In the age of coworking, coliving, co-this and co-that it is something worth thinking about. These things are coming more in to play due to more people working remotely but still wanting the human contact.
More deep work in our lives has to be prioritised… a must for 'knowledge workers' wanting to be at the top of their game, especially with the advances in technology!
We dive deep in the article linked below 👇

📚 Here we have a lesser known classic from the famous success author Napoleon Hill…
Hill will be familiar with many readers on personal development principles. His most famous and influential work of course was Think and Grow Rich.
Outwitting the Devil is far less well known, but equally as powerful and important (if not more so) and written soon after, fills in some gaps, and gives another angle on all this stuff.
The main crux of the book is an interview with the devil. What? Well, whether this is metaphorical or literal, the discussion takes place. We delve into what the devil’s intentions are and how he brings them about… and also how we can defeat his wily ways.
Due to the controversial nature of the content, this book was held back from release for many years, but since everyone involved has passed on it has been let loose!
Interesting read and highly recommended…

📚 Here's a great book from an interesting character, and has to rank as one of the best in all genres…
David Goggins is a man some may be familiar with, others won’t have heard of at all. Some will love his ‘direct’ style, others may be put off by it. Either way, his message is sound.
Can't Hurt Me is the auto-bio of this former Navy SEAL, ultra-runner and speaker, and delves into his life and accomplishments.
Not for the faint-hearted (or those who dislike swearing), this guy tells it how it is. Nothing fancy here, just good old-fashioned hard graft.
A really well written book, with genuine personal development principles scattered throughout. You see these in the specifics written about but also contained in the story.
And as Goggins says, it’s not so much about him either, but about the reader and what they take and apply.
Oh, and make sure to get the audio!
