Depends what you are considering "the game". If it's a session, they usually go for a few hours... on my group we have 3 hour sessions but I have played sessions that were 4 or even 5.
May sound like a lot but you actually get very little done depending on the adventure.
The actual adventure can last as long as the Dungeon Master (the person who "runs" the game) desires. There are some adventures called one-shots that are designed to last a single session, and there are also bigger campaigns that go on indefinitely. We have been playing this adventure for 4 years I think
And as for "who is the winner" well that concept is very relative.... all players are on the same team so in theory if we make it to end alive we all win hahha
But all sorts of stuff can happen during the game and maybe some people will acomplish more than others depending on how they designed their characters
Well, the druid got away but that was still a win for our team. We saved the baby in the end and now we will proceed with our adventures.... however that will have to wait until next week

Originally D&D was played in person but nowadays is getting more and more common to play it online. That's how I do it. My group has players from Brazil, Canada, US and Sweden so online is the way to go
It's a tabletop roleplaying game. Basically you pick a character and roll dice to determine the outcome of your actions. There are some rules for character building and combat but you can try to do pretty much anything you can imagine.
On D&D, characters levels go from 1 to a maximum of 20 so 9 is just about half-way to maximum power.
We play on a "milestone" progression mode, meaning we level up by completing relevant pieces of the adventure such as finishing an important quest or defeating a very powerful enemy. In this mode, progression is quite slow and it can take years to get to level 9 (assuming you start from level 1)
THis adventure started I think 4 years ago... we take a few weeks break now and then and we complete a relevant part of the adventure so I would say we have had around 3 years of actual game play
Note that this adventure takes place in the realm of Ekwado, which is a world that was created and has been developed by our DM for 40 years, give or take, so a lot of stuff is customized to our adventure
The adventure starts as Sir Lohent (me), high captain of the Draphansian Royal Paladins, is tasked with a mission to investigate the lair of the blue dragon Sterbus, because it it's rumored that a potential conclave of evil dragons is gathering and must be stopped
Sir Lohent gathers a group of adventurers to go investigate the place. Right at the beginning of the journey, our group was ambushed by many ogers, dark elves and other monsters
There is a wagon on the battlefield. We can hear a baby crying from inside. We can't reach it yet because there are too many enemies on the way. We will need to clear out this combat before we can do anything about the wagon
We are doing quite well on this combat but there are many enemies. I am directly fighting an oger and a dark elf ranger but there are other archers nearby who will probably take a chance at me
One of enemies swinged his sword twice against me, but missed both times. It looks like luck is on my side today. Third round without taking any damage
Not all sessions are "thrilling" like this one... somtimes there is very little combat and a lot of talking, or roleplaying as we call it. Some people don't like that but it's part of the game. It's just as important as combat for an immersive experience, in my opinion
Now the person wearing dark robes decided to finally leave the wagon taking the baby. It's good that they are taking the baby away from the fight but on the other hand we don't know what are their intentios
COMPONENTS: V, S, M * (a tiny ball of bat guano and sulfur)
DURATION: Instantaneous
SCHOOL: Evocation
ATTACK/SAVE: DEX Save
DAMAGE/EFFECT: Fire
A bright streak flashes from your pointing finger to a point you choose within range and then blossoms with a low roar into an explosion of flame. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 8d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
The fire spreads around corners. It ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3rd.
During combat, characters get the chance to move, do an Action and a Bonus Action.
Actions are things like attacking, trying to escape and casting spells, although some spells can be casted as Bonus Action

We are now on round 2 of what is definitely going to be a big combat.
A huge oger just tried to attack me but it only rolled a 14, against my 22 armor class, meaning it missed.
On my turn, I took a swing at the oger that missed me. He wasnt so lucky and I hit it with my Holy Avenger sword, killing it with one hit.

A dark figure emerged from the wagon holding the baby. But then it change its mind and got back in....
We have no idea whether they are friend or foe... we will have to find out

Ardor, our wizard, just casted a fireball. That's his signature move. Fun stuff!
I think I will also drop some rule definitions, spell descriptions and what not here and there. Might help to train the AI...

So, the spell created some sort of a vine that pulled me towards her... not sure what happens next but we will find out
Ogers are all gone.... but I'm all tied up waiting to see what will happen
I got lucky... the spell just pulled me closer to the woman. But on her turn she might attack me

Reformist Masoud Pezeshkian has been elected as Iran's new president, beating his hardline conservative rival Saeed Jalili.

In a year so far that had been marked by the Boeing scandal and labor problems between flight attendants and management at several airlines, some good news has emerged in the aviation world.
The cancelation rate of flight is at its lowest in years.
Despite record-breaking levels of air travel this year, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) numbers show that the flight cancellation rate for the first half of 2024 was just 1.4 percent – nearly the lowest rate in more than a decade.
The same rate was recorded in 2015.

Aer Lingus has been forced to cancel some flights next week due to what is called an ‘industrial action’ – or a labor issue – by the Irish Air Line Pilots Association (IALPA).
The flight cancelations will take place between July 11 and July 14.
These are in addition to flights that have already been canceled. The Irish carrier made the announcement on its X feed. The airline said it was due to the “indefinite nature” of the action.
Certain flights from Manchester, England, are not affected, but the airline said to please check to see if you are impacted.
