Food Fact (28): The Three Musketeers doesn’t live up to its name. The famous Three Musketeers candy bar originally had vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate flavors in one!... Hello @taskmaster4450le, What can you say about this?
#foodtalk
Lol. Why do kids like rice? I'm wondering how you got to switch from rice to yam... So was it white rice and stew that was your favorite as a child or jollof rice.
How to you prefer to have yam? Porridge, boiled yam and sauce, fried or roasted? #foodtalk
Back then I loved white rice and stew that was my favorite,
As I grew older I started loving the taste of yam because In my secondary school years they seldom have rice on the menu. Now I can eat yam prepared in any way. I love yam.
There is something special about white rice and stew I am yet to discover. Yeah, some types of yam are naturally sweet and when it is well prepared, it is always enjoyed.
I like yam as well, but it's not my favorite. #foodtalk
As a child, I enjoyed pancakes, fried plantain and egg sauce, pap (made from maize and millet), oh, and cerelac 😋. I guess there are more cos this Leo lady loves delicious meals and mum always got it right. 😍 #foodtalk https://inleo.io/threads/view/winanda/re-winanda-gwgemdux

The Port of Seattle, which also operates the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, said it was hit with a “possible cyberattack”
The Port of Seattle, which also operates the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, said it was hit with a “possible cyberattack” that appeared to affect websites and phone systems.
The port first noted the outages via social media on Saturday morning, with the airport then posting that it had “experienced certain system outages indicating a possible cyberattack.”
Late Saturday evening, the airport said it was still experiencing outages: “There is not an estimated time for return and Port teams continue to work to restore full service.” It also encouraged travelers to use airline apps to get their boarding passes and bag tags, and to allow extra time to reach their gates.
The Port of Seattle, including SEA Airport, continues to see system outages. There is not an estimated time for return and Port teams continue to work to restore full service. (Cont.)

As of Sunday morning Pacific time, the Port of Seattle’s public-facing web infrastructure, including its website, still appeared to be largely offline, per a TechCrunch review of its DNS records.
A TSA spokesperson told GeekWire that there was no impact on security operations. Earlier this year, the Biden Administration announced an executive order aimed at improving cybersecurity in ports.

This is a guide on how to check whether someone compromised your online accounts.
More and more hackers are targeting regular people with the goal of stealing their crypto, perhaps getting into their bank accounts or simply stalking them. These types of attacks are still relatively rare, so there’s no need for alarm. But it’s important to know what you can do to protect yourself if you suspect someone got into your email or social media account.
A few years ago, I wrote a guide to help people protect themselves, and understand that most of the companies you have an account with already offer you tools to take control of your accounts’ security, even before you contact them for help, which in some cases you still should do.
Here we break down what you can do on several different online services.
Just like in the previous guide, there’s an important caveat. You should know that these methods don’t guarantee that you haven’t been compromised. If you still aren’t sure, you should contact a professional, especially if you are a journalist, a dissident or activist, or otherwise someone who has a higher risk of being targeted. In those cases, the nonprofit Access Now has a digital security helpline that will connect you to one of their experts.
Another caveat, if you don’t do this already, you should enable multi-factor authentication on all your accounts, or at least the most important ones (email, banking, social media). This directory is a great resource that teaches you how to enable multi-factor authentication on more than 1,000 websites. (Note that you don’t have to use the multi-factor app promoted on that site, there are plenty of other alternatives.)
Increasingly some online services offer the use of a physical security key or a passkey stored in your password manager, which is one of the highest safeguards to prevent account intrusions that rely on password-stealing malware or phishing.
Ride-hailing platform Uber has been fined €290 million -- around $324 million at current exchanges rates
Ride-hailing platform Uber has been fined €290 million — around $324 million at current exchanges rates — by the Netherlands’ privacy watchdog for breaching the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The penalty is related to transfers of personal data of drivers out of the European Union to the US, where Uber’s main business is located. The GDPR allows for fines of up to 4% of global annual turnover to be levied for non-compliance.
Uber’s full year revenue for 2023 was around €34.5 billion — so the level of sanction is well below that maximum. However, it is still a notable amount as it’s among the largest penalties levied on a tech company since the GDPR began operating back in 2018.
The fine is the outcome of a series of complaints made by more than 170 Uber drivers in France back in 2021. The Dutch regulator, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (or AP), leads on GDPR oversight of Uber as the company has its main EU establishment in the country. It investigated complaints over how the company processes the drivers’ personal data. Complaints were submitted through a human rights organization, Ligue des droits de l’Homme (LDH), to France’s privacy watchdog and then passed to the AP.
In January, Uber was fined €10 million for data access rights pertaining to the same complaints. But the new fine announced Monday dwarfs the earlier penalty — landing it a new spot on the list of tech giants stung with the ten biggest GDPR fines, just below mid-table.
The size of the penalty reflects the seriousness of the breach, per the AP, which wrote in a press release that Uber had failed to “appropriately safeguard” data which it transferred out of the EU — dubbing that “a serious violation”.
A new joint venture aims to rapidly scale the United Arab Emirates' domestic satellite production capabilities.
A holding company affiliated with an Emirati royal family is injecting a new joint venture between Abu Dhabi-based Marlan Space and startup Loft Orbital with over $100 million to grow the region’s domestic satellite manufacturing capabilities.
The joint venture, called Orbitworks, will be the first commercial firm in the United Arab Emirates to mass manufacture satellites. Majority ownership is with Marlan Space, a new space company affiliated with the International Holding Company. IHC is itself majority controlled by the Royal Group, a conglomerate owned by the ruling royal family of Abu Dhabi.
The UAE has high ambitions for space — and deep pockets to fund them. The UAE Space Agency (UAESA) is less than a decade old, but the government has spent billions investing in homegrown capabilities and establishing partnerships with other countries and commercial players. The UAE sent its first astronaut (or privately funded “spaceflight participant” as NASA put it) to the ISS in 2019; two years later, it became the latest member of a very small group of nations to put a probe into Martian orbit.
The Gulf nation’s space ecosystem has a few key players beyond the UAESA: Space42, a merger of Emirati satellite firm Yahsat and data analytics company Bayanat; EDGE Group, a large industrial prime; and a handful of universities and research institutions like the National Space and Science Technology Center. The country is at the point where it wants to deploy satellite constellations, and bring satellite manufacturing capabilities in-house.
Loft Orbital CEO Pierre-Damien Vaujour said in a recent interview that he’s long had an interest in the UAE’s space ecosystem: “Even when we started Loft, I had in mind at the very beginning that I wanted to open activities in the UAE and contribute to the ecosystem over there.”
San Francisco-based Loft buys satellite buses in bulk and flies payloads for customers, using a standardized modular payload adaptor that integrates the customer’s hardware with the spacecraft. Loft handles all of the launch integration and operates the spacecraft once it achieves orbit. The startup can also perform “virtual missions,” where customers can deploy applications on orbit that leverage onboard sensors, compute and cameras.

The first defense startup to receive backing from Y Combinator, Ares Industries, launched earlier this week.
In a post on the YC website, the startup outlined a vision to build low-cost cruise missiles that will be compatible with existing launch platforms, saying it will “deliver the capabilities that the [Department of Defense] wants in a form factor that’s 10x smaller and 10x cheaper.”
Ares Industries’s founders say they’ve tested prototypes in the Mojave Desert and plan to deliver working missile systems to their first customers in mid-2025.
YC partner Jared Friedman told the FT that the incubator started encouraging defense tech startups to apply earlier this year.
YC’s CEO Garry Tan was an early employee at data analytics company Palantir, which has become hugely successful through its sometimes controversial work for U.S. military, as well as other governments and agencies. CEO Alex Karp defended the company’s “consistently pro-Western view” in a recent New York Times interview.
Yes, robotic surgery is indeed growing. Here's a brief overview of its current state and trends:
Market growth: The global robotic surgery market is expanding rapidly, with projections showing continued growth in the coming years.
Increasing adoption: More hospitals and surgical centers are investing in robotic surgical systems.
Expanding applications: Initially used primarily for urology and gynecology, robotic surgery is now being applied to a wider range of procedures, including general, cardiac, and orthopedic surgeries.
Technological advancements: Newer systems offer improved precision, 3D visualization, and haptic feedback.
Training programs: There's an increase in training programs for surgeons to become proficient in robotic techniques.
Patient demand: As awareness grows, more patients are requesting robotic procedures for potential benefits like smaller incisions and faster recovery times.
Competition: While Intuitive Surgical's da Vinci system has been dominant, new competitors are entering the market, potentially driving innovation and reducing costs.
Research: Ongoing studies are evaluating the long-term outcomes and cost-effectiveness of robotic surgery compared to traditional methods.
What surgeries are being done presently by robots?
Robotic surgery is being used across a wide range of surgical specialties. Here's an overview of some common procedures currently performed using robotic assistance:
Various procedures, including urologic and general surgeries
Neurosurgery:
Certain types of brain surgery
Spine surgery
It's important to note that the extent of robotic use can vary by hospital and surgeon expertise. Also, robotic surgery is often used for minimally invasive procedures, but it's not always the best option for every patient or condition.
The financial impact of robotic surgery is complex and often debated. While robotic surgery can potentially lead to savings in some areas, it may increase costs in others. Here's a balanced view:
High initial investment: Robotic systems can cost between $1-2 million, plus annual maintenance.
Expensive disposables: Instruments and accessories for robotic systems are often costlier than traditional tools.
Longer operating times: Especially during the learning phase, which can increase overall procedure costs.
Training costs: Hospitals must invest in training surgeons and staff.
It's important to note that the financial impact varies widely depending on:
The specific procedure
Hospital volume
Surgeon experience
Local healthcare costs
Currently, there's no clear consensus on overall cost savings. Some studies show potential savings for specific procedures, while others indicate increased costs. The long-term economic impact is still being evaluated.
For a more precise analysis, you'd need to look at specific procedures in particular healthcare systems.
These are really quick food sources for me to check if any are usefull. Great sources agregators... I wonder if we can have something similar to feeds for particular type of threads #feedback for thoughts.
Drivers who used to face congestion during peak hours when passing through the Barão Geraldo neighborhood, in Campinas, São Paulo, due to the traffic lights at the intersection, have now noticed an improvement in the flow of vehicles. In recent times, queues that were once common have become less frequent.
This reduction in drivers' waiting time is the result of a partnership between the city council and Google to implement the Green Light project. The artificial intelligence tool uses information from Google Maps, an application that monitors traffic in real time, to identify traffic lights that are causing congestion.
The analysis carried out by AI is passed on to Google engineers, who then suggest adjustments to the opening and closing times of traffic lights, according to the flow of vehicle traffic.
The measure was implemented recently in Campinas and, according to the municipality's director of strategic projects and smart cities, Thais Costa, the reduction in drivers' waiting time has already been noticeable.
As China seeks to advance the development of humanoid robots, its supply chains showcase cheaper, more innovative parts at the world robot conference in Beijing, but some executives warn the industry still needs to improve the reliability of its products.
Wisson Technology, known for its flexible robotic manipulators, does not rely on motors and reducers – transmission devices commonly used in robotics – but instead uses 3D-printed plastics and relies on pneumatic artificial muscles in its robots.
This cheaper form of production allows the price of the company's flexible arms to be about a tenth of that charged for traditional robotic arms, said Cao Wei, an investor in Wisson through venture capital firm Lanchi Ventures, where he is a partner. .
The flexible technology will usher in robotic arms at a cost of about 10,000 yuan ($1,404), Wisson says on its website.
“(Wisson’s) soft arms can be used on humanoids,” Cao said, adding that the company has already provided samples to foreign companies that make humanoid robots.
Harmonic gear, which refers to machinery that plays a key role in controlling motion, was a key issue, he said.
China's robotics effort is supported by President Xi Jinping's policy of developing “new productive forces” in technology – a point highlighted in brochures for last week's event.
Across China, the world's biggest market for industrial robots, increasingly sophisticated technology is changing the face of traditional sectors such as manufacturing, automobiles, agriculture, education, as well as healthcare and home services.

When you think about discoveries that transformed the course of history, what comes to mind? Wars, revolutionary inventions or social movements?
Few remember that, in the dark depths of a mine in Europe, a small mineral would be responsible for one of the greatest scientific and technological revolutions of modernity.
At the end of the 18th century, in 1789, German chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth isolated, for the first time, a previously unknown metal from a mineral that seemed to be just another geological curiosity.

#foodtalk
These days because of my health issues, I'm adviced to eat water yam it contains low sugar. For me it also taste great.
What did you have for breakfast? #foodtalk
After my every morning water therapy, I'll drink my tumeric, ginger, and garlic with bread.
This is a good way to start the morning. Tumeric, ginger and garlic have great health benefits.
Exactly. I recommend you give it a try.
Yes, I try it once in a while, I'm stuck with taking slightly hot water every morning and warm water throughout the day.
Yes that's what I call water therapy. I drink warm water every morning before my breakfast.
Are you cooking this week or eating out? Let's know what you are whipping up. 😋 #foodtalk
We always cook, but once a while we eat out.
That's great. You get more satisfaction when you cook, right?
Very healthy, hygienic and pocket friendly.
Exactly. You see the word "hygiene", many people ignore it.
I care much about it, very very important. My stomach reacts quickly to what goes in there.
What will you have for lunch? #foodtalk
Food Fact (29): Froot Loops are all the same flavor. As colorful as they are, you’d think they were flavored accordingly! But no,... That's right.
I will be cooking oha soup, potatoes and garden egg sauce this week. I have some foods in the freezer and may cook more if the need arises. #foodtalk

The Port of Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport say they’ve been hit by ‘possible cyberattack’
#technology #cyberattack #newsonleo
Late Saturday evening, the airport said it was still experiencing outages: “There is not an estimated time for return and Port teams continue to work to restore full service.” It also encouraged travelers to use airline apps to get their boarding passes and bag tags, and to allow extra time to reach their gates.
This comes less than a month after a CrowdStrike software update caused a global IT meltdown that included flight cancellations and delays.

How to tell if your online accounts have been hacked
#technology #hack

Uber fined $324M over EU drivers data transfer breach
Ride-hailing platform Uber has been fined €290 million -- around $324 million at current exchanges rates
Ride-hailing platform Uber has been fined €290 million — around $324 million at current exchanges rates — by the Netherlands’ privacy watchdog for breaching the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The penalty is related to transfers of personal data of drivers out of the European Union to the US, where Uber’s main business is located. The GDPR allows for fines of up to 4% of global annual turnover to be levied for non-compliance.
#newonleo #uber #eu #technology

Are AI Models Becoming Commoditized?
Loft Orbital forms joint venture with UAE-based firm to scale satellite production in the Middle East
#newsonleo #space #loftorbital

Use of artificial intelligence reduces traffic in SP and RJ
Drivers who used to face congestion during peak hours when passing through the Barão Geraldo neighborhood, in Campinas, São Paulo, due to the traffic lights at the intersection, have now noticed an improvement in the flow of vehicles. In recent times, queues that were once common have become less frequent.
This reduction in drivers' waiting time is the result of a partnership between the city council and Google to implement the Green Light project. The artificial intelligence tool uses information from Google Maps, an application that monitors traffic in real time, to identify traffic lights that are causing congestion.
#newsonleo #technology #brazil #ai
The analysis carried out by AI is passed on to Google engineers, who then suggest adjustments to the opening and closing times of traffic lights, according to the flow of vehicle traffic.
The measure was implemented recently in Campinas and, according to the municipality's director of strategic projects and smart cities, Thais Costa, the reduction in drivers' waiting time has already been noticeable.

Humanoid robots get cheaper parts, but reliability is still a challenge
As China seeks to advance the development of humanoid robots, its supply chains showcase cheaper, more innovative parts at the world robot conference in Beijing, but some executives warn the industry still needs to improve the reliability of its products.
Wisson Technology, known for its flexible robotic manipulators, does not rely on motors and reducers – transmission devices commonly used in robotics – but instead uses 3D-printed plastics and relies on pneumatic artificial muscles in its robots.
#newsonleo #technology #robot

Invisible Energy
Invisible energy revealed: stone extracted from the depths of mines is responsible for one of the greatest scientific and technological revolutions in modern history

💬 Talk about what you've read, what you'd like to read and discuss the world of literature!
Have fun! 📖
Just finished Could It Really Happen by Marvin Moore. This was the first book by Mr. Moore I have had the privilege of reading and it did not disappoint. I could not put it down.
Essentially a look into the prophecies of Revelation 13, concerning the sea and land beasts. A huge look into the history of religion in America and the dangers of the 'religious right'. Eye opening stuff.

Time for another #underratedalbum, isn't it? Here it comes! Secrets of Lost Empires and their eponymous debut:
1/ Threadstorm
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS
2/
It was a hard weekend for me mentally. Grief hit me hard, Saturday was the worst. Yeseterday a bit better, I did manage to be on Threads more. But sleep.
3/
I don't know if I got board last evening or more than likely it was the grief, but I put down my laptop after 14 hours, turned off the tV and went to my bedroom around 7PM, I threw on the TV up there to relax. Relax I did, I woke up something after 12, turned off the TV and went back to sleep.
4/
Woke up to the alarm clock at 5am this morning, so I thought. Did my morning routine. Went to bathroom, put on a coffee, went outside for a smoke. Came back in for more coffee sat down and opened my laptop. And it was 5:30am. Oops. I must have been sleeping with the alarm clock going for a good 15 to 20 minutes.
5/
I do feel well rested, and for the moment the grief has subsided. And it is back to work today to keep me busy.
On The BBH Project, things are also slowly going onwards and upwards. I had a message this morning from @lbi-token:
6/
"Hey @bradleyarrow how would you feel if we added #bbho as a reward on our liquidity pool.
Thinking to keep our staked earnings staked, but adding all the liquid payouts our posts make as a little additional reward for our LP's in #lbi/$LEO:$0.03 pool.
Would you be ok with that?"
7/
What did I say? Damn strait. Go for it. Anything to help get this project more known. Baby steps, one brick in foundation at a time. This is awesome.
There are now 619 HIvers that hold some BBHO tokens.
Here is to building and to the future.
8/
End of storm. To read full long form post:

Have you read the Lord of the Rings trilogy, written by J.R.R. Tolkien?
Which one did you like the most?
#polls #books #fantasy #hobby #leobooks
When I was in High School one of the books they assigned was The Hobbit. I couldn't get through it. So, no I've not read those books
I would really like it if here in Brazil there was this type of incentive too.
The Hobbit is a great book for children to start reading and understand the universe created by Tolkien.
But at least at the time you tried to read it. 😅
I have not, but I did pretend to try once xD
That was definitely a great answer. LOL
Right now the only way to log in and store Sats on @v4vapp is with a Hive account.
To interface better with what @vsc.network are building I want to add log in with an ETH account number and signing via a browser wallet.
Thoughts?
Why the hell not?
It's an excellent idea, very impressive progress and let it be kept improving and growing. Hats off to you.
