Jacob Trouba's curtain call on Broadway has arrived.
The Rangers prepared to take the ice Friday night against the Penguins without their captain, Jacob Trouba, who was traded to the Ducks before the puck dropped in exchange for defenseman Urho Vaakanainen and a 2025 fourth-round pick, The Post’s Larry Brooks confirmed.
There was no salary retention in the deal for the Rangers, who were able to move all of Trouba’s $8 million cap hit off the books.
Two years, three months and 28 days since the ‘C’ was stitched into his No. 8 jersey, Trouba – the 28th captain in franchise history – faced the same fate as the 27th and 26th.
The Rangers had been looking to move on from their captain since the summer, but the organization was hellbent on it now more than ever amid the team’s downward spiral.
Trouba was given at least a pair of trade options, according to Brooks, but it is believed the 30-year-old defenseman was told he’d be placed on waivers if he did not accept.
Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury has indeed spoken with Trouba. In fact, the two spoke multiple times both in a group setting and one-on-one, including Friday morning.
Mets third baseman Brett Baty is drawing trade interest. The Mets are listening, but not actively shopping him.
Mets third baseman Brett Baty is drawing trade interest around the league, and the front office is at least listening to offers on the former top prospect, reports Mike Puma of the New York Post. Baty isn’t being actively shopped but isn’t off limits either, making him an option for clubs seeking affordable (salary-wise) help at the hot corner.
Baty has long looked like a logical trade candidate. He made our list of the top offseason trade candidates heading into the winter, due largely to the emergence of Mark Vientos at third base and the possibility of the Mets re-signing Pete Alonso. In a scenario where Alonso signs elsewhere and Vientos moves across the diamond to first base, there’d still be a path for Baty to claim the everyday gig at the hot corner, but he’s stumbled multiple times when afforded that opportunity in recent seasons. Mets fans will want to check out Puma’s piece for in-depth quotes from scouts around the league, a couple of whom feel Baty is a small adjustment or two away from cementing himself as a big league regular.
Free agent right-hander Clay Holmes appears close to making a decision on his next team, reports Jayson Stark of The Athletic. Teams that have been in talks with the former Yankees closer have gotten the impression that he’s on the verge of choosing among several offers, per Stark, who adds that Holmes has been negotiating with “a long list of contending clubs.”
Holmes, 32 in April, spent the past three and a half seasons in the Bronx, combining for 217 2/3 innings of 2.69 ERA ball. He fanned 26.6% of his opponents and limited walks at a sharp 7.7% clip along the way. Holmes established himself as one of the game’s premier ground-ball pitchers in that time as well, leaning on a sizzling sinker that averages 96.5 mph to induce grounders at a nearly 68% clip.
While Holmes broke out as a reliever in the Bronx, however, there are reportedly several teams that have interest in bringing him aboard as a starting pitcher. Which role he prefers is surely something Holmes has weighed extensively in free agency — particularly if most of the clubs he’s spoken to are expected contenders. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported last month that the Mets are among the teams interested in seeing Holmes in the rotation. The Athletic’s Matt Gelb reported just a couple days ago that the Phillies are interested in Holmes in a relief role. While free agency typically boils down to the “money talks” adage, if Holmes had similar offers from a pair of contending clubs who want to use him in different roles, that’d add another layer to the decision process.
The Rays announced that they have sent minor league right-hander Sean Harney to the Mets in exchange for international bonus pool money. The exact amount of bonus pool space heading to the Rays hasn’t yet been reported, but Will Sammon of The Athletic (X link) reports that this it’s part of the 2024 pool.
Under baseball’s international bonus pool system, each team has a hard-capped limit on how much they can spend on international amateurs each year. Broadly speaking, the big-spending teams get smaller pools and the smaller-market clubs gets more. Teams that don’t receive revenue sharing can also have their pool size reduced by signing players who rejected qualifying offers. A team is allowed to increase the size of its pool via trade, though they can only go to 60% beyond their initial allotment.
There were hundreds of former players that came to pay their respects to Lou Carnesecca at St. Thomas More Church on Friday.
And they weren’t just players that Carnesecca coached during his legendary coaching career at St. John’s.
It was also the players that arrived well after he retired in 1992 and were still impacted by his presence on campus.
And they all spoke about the impact he had not only on them on the court, but off it, as well.
“The things he instilled in me as a man, forget about basketball,’’ Walter Berry said of Carnesecca, who passed away Saturday at 99, just more than a month shy of his 100th birthday.
“He did a lot for a lot of people,’’ an emotional Berry said. “He was one of the greatest people I’ve ever known… This is a hard day for everybody. Coach was my guy. He helped me in ways that nobody else could.”
That was the message shared throughout the day about Carnesecca, who was honored Friday for his 526 career wins at St. John’s, but more for his generosity and spirit.
“Coach spent his whole life here,’’ Chris Mullin said. “The longevity alone was a lot, but it was more his infectious personality, his warmth, his care, his love, his protection. I always felt he protected us. He gave his players the wins and he took the losses.”
Over 400 people packed the church on the Queens campus on a frigid morning and one player who was recruited by Carnesecca, Billy Schaeffer, gave the eulogy and spoke of Carnesecca’s insistence on the importance of not having a big ego, staying humble and caring for others.
The New York Mets struck once again on the pitching market on Friday night, inking right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes to a three-year deal worth $38 million with an opt-out after the 2026 season.
MMO’s Mike Mayer previously reported on New York’s interest in Holmes, and the New York Post’s Joel Sherman was the first to break news of the signing while ESPN’s Jeff Passan revealed that the deal included an opt-out.
There was buzz in recent days that teams were registering interest in utilizing Holmes as a starting pitcher rather than a reliever, and Passan confirmed that New York plans on following that line of thinking. The 31-year-old was a two-time All-Star for the New York Yankees out of the bullpen, posting a 2.69 ERA and 74 saves with the team over 220 appearances, though the Mets are hoping that they can successfully transition him to the rotation despite the fact that he has not started a game at the major league level since he was a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2018.
If that experiment falls flat, however, Holmes could still provide plenty of value at the backend of the bullpen. He joins former Yankees teammate Frankie Montas as the Mets’ two additions in the rotation so far this offseason.
With their latest addition to a new-look rotation, the New York Mets are getting creative.
The Mets and right-hander Clay Holmes have agreed to a three-year contract worth $38 million, league sources confirmed to The Athletic. The New York Post first reported the deal, which includes an opt-out after the second year.
The Mets plan to use Holmes, the former New York Yankees closer, as a starting pitcher.
If Holmes doesn’t pan out in the rotation, the fallback option could be to have him work as a setup reliever to closer Edwin Díaz.
Over his career as a reliever, Holmes has a 3.52 ERA and is a two-time All-Star.
A handful of other teams beyond the Mets were interested in Holmes as a starter, league sources said. Holmes’ three pitches (sinker, slider, sweeper) and his stuff lead to a ton of ground balls. Holmes has thrown at least 60 innings in each of the past four seasons but has never logged more than 70, his total in 2021.
After signing Frankie Montas earlier this week, club sources said that the Mets remained interested in adding multiple other starting pitchers.
But the Mets had indicated to Holmes during their meeting with him that they were intrigued by his potential as a starting pitcher.
Holmes, 31, last started a game in 2018. He began his career as a starter in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ farm system. While in Triple A for the second straight year in 2018, the Pirates started using Holmes in a hybrid role, with him making starts and relief appearances. He made four starts but had a 7.80 ERA in the role before shifting full-time to the bullpen.
Given the high prices for pitching so far in the market, it is unsurprising to see the Mets look for opportunities. The Mets are confident in their approach to pitching development under president of baseball operations David Stearns and pitching coach Jeremy Hefner.
Holmes will join former relievers such as Seth Lugo, Reynaldo López, Michael King and Jordan Hicks who have made the transition over the past couple of years.

Well you don't need certificates for most things. But I did get a high school diploma from Clonlara High School, which certifies a lot of homeschooled students.
Wow! Sounds like you enjoyed it. So do you feel it's better than traditional schooling?
Homeschooling feels a lot more flexible and safer depending on the country and the schools' teaching policy and style knowing that a lot of negative things are going on in schools these days and children could easily be manipulated and misled.
But if parents consider including some activities along with homeschooling, the children wouldn't be left out in different stages of their lives due to missing school environments and socializing.
The socialization aspect is the one challenge, but if you put your kids into social activities such as sports or martial arts or music etc., they get that component.
Well, I've always admired home schooling being present with my little cousins years back, watching them pass through that before their parents finally put them in school and also had the opportunity to watch over my nephews home schooling during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was quite interesting.
Yeah, the socialization aspect can be solved and it has to begin early, those you mentioned are good options.
Some parents might find this challenging but it will be convenient for parents who work from home.
Well, I'm considering home schooling for my kids when I have my family.
I wasn't homeschooled but I've sometimes thought about it. I believe the education can be even better when learning at home but the other aspect is the social side. Obviously I made a lot of friends outside school but many friendships were also made there.
I had a unique experience in that I was raised in the wilderness on a ranch without anyone else my age close by. But I still caught up in socialization in my teens when I traveled across the world.
I think homeschooling can have zero social negatives, but you have to have a plan. Enroll them in other activities like sports etc.
I think homeschooling can have zero social negatives, but you have to have a plan. Enroll them in other activities like sports etc.
Yeah, this sounds good! Sports was definitely one social side I forgot to mention and can easily fill that school social gap. 👍 I think it could be actually better cos kids share the same interests which could lead to making more friends
Using a keystore for InLeo and DEX's without worrying about what a "posting key" is.
Makes this experience amazing. Don't confuse people with Hive and Key talk.
this is probably only social media account you own and not renting. having keys for it saved somewhere would be smart. no need to use them if you don't want, but saving them should be something everyone should do.
So both.
The small games are to test things, like Hive logins, darkcloaks.io NFTs, etc...
also internally to test tools etc....
The business strategy is to get into a regular release schedule so even tho the larger games like Portal Brawlers take time, players are still aware of us.
plus players get to enjoy some of the games.
Also if one of the small games becomes popular we can put it on the list to do a bigger version.
i am a dead gamer :D so i am not talking specially about me. I meant more as fun for a group of people. more of next few months should be a good time to publish a game connected with "web3". just from the hype standpoint. 🔽
last game i played was testing out that racing game (think that is yours) months ago. Splinterlands was fun for me, for a long time. And i am not expecting someone making Fallout on Hive :D
things have been picking up pace a lot lately to be honest, especially with 3d assets and game dev ever since we launched the alpha vial sale and hive recovered a bit, not sure why simplemind keeps coming at our project all year, I hear he dislikes spl as well, oh well
Well, there are many people who don't like Play2Earn games. I for one, started to think they're not worth my time (anymore) but if some P2E game managed to be so entertaining that I won't mind playing it, if I had gato pay instead, then I might change my opinion on the genre.
we're not really focusing on p2e or the token value, we just wanna build fun games from the same ecosystem that allow players to unlock whichever genre they like using the same assets as the flagship game that's about to launch
Hmmm... Interesting. Hope it launches with good results!
we just wanna build fun games from the same ecosystem that allow players to unlock whichever genre they like using the same assets as the flagship game that's about to launch
It'll be a bit of a soft-launch, potentially only PvE encounters as people are getting annoyed by delays which is understandable - we've also stressed our gamedev way too much with game logic additions, it's quite packed for an alpha/beta.
We're buying up 1.5M $LEO so quietly that I've seen several people wonder if we're actually doing anything
LEO is a very tight supply token. Most of it is staked and it is very difficult to buy in large quantities
The best strategy has always been to buy in small quantities consistently over a long period of time. Allowing the other blockchain listings of LEO to be arbitraged back to the native token
I do not mean this in a negative way at all it is just a question.
Why sit on a buy order and wait for people to sell, when you could just be buying it?

Clay Holmes Believed To Be Nearing Decision
Free agent right-hander Clay Holmes appears close to making a decision on his next team, reports Jayson Stark of The Athletic. Teams that have been in talks with the former Yankees closer have gotten the impression that he’s on the verge of choosing among several offers, per Stark, who adds that Holmes has been negotiating with “a long list of contending clubs.”
#mlb #clayholmes #sports #jaysonstark

Mets Acquire Sean Harney From Rays
The Rays announced that they have sent minor league right-hander Sean Harney to the Mets in exchange for international bonus pool money. The exact amount of bonus pool space heading to the Rays hasn’t yet been reported, but Will Sammon of The Athletic (X link) reports that this it’s part of the 2024 pool.
#mlb #trade #seanharney #tampa #rays #nymets
Under baseball’s international bonus pool system, each team has a hard-capped limit on how much they can spend on international amateurs each year. Broadly speaking, the big-spending teams get smaller pools and the smaller-market clubs gets more. Teams that don’t receive revenue sharing can also have their pool size reduced by signing players who rejected qualifying offers. A team is allowed to increase the size of its pool via trade, though they can only go to 60% beyond their initial allotment.

Lou Carnesecca’s funeral an homage to his multi-generational St. John’s legacy
#stjohns #loucarnsecca #basketball #funeral

Mets Sign Clay Holmes to Three-Year Deal
The New York Mets struck once again on the pitching market on Friday night, inking right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes to a three-year deal worth $38 million with an opt-out after the 2026 season.
MMO’s Mike Mayer previously reported on New York’s interest in Holmes, and the New York Post’s Joel Sherman was the first to break news of the signing while ESPN’s Jeff Passan revealed that the deal included an opt-out.
@nymets #mlb #clayholmes #freeagent #pitcher
!summarize #larrybird #celtic #boston #nba
!summarize #steveyoung
A handful of other teams were interested in Clay Holmes as a starter, league sources said. Clubs liked the repertoire, background.
The Mets are disciplined, resourceful in approach to finding SPs in market. They're also confident in development.

Proudly homeschooled my whole life.
So how did you get certificates? Or was there none?
Well you don't need certificates for most things. But I did get a high school diploma from Clonlara High School, which certifies a lot of homeschooled students.
Oh, that's amazing. I guess your kids are home schooled too
Don't have any yet, but if we do, they will be.
Absolutely, many many times better.
Thanks for sharing Joel.
In some US states you can get a tax refund to pay for it too. It's a great option that I would recommend to anyone who can make it work.
this is the first year we took our kids out of public school and put them in a local Christian school.
night and day what they are taught and come home talking about.
but if i see an inch of wokeness, they are getting home schooled lol
Do iiiiiiiiiiiiiit
I wasn't homeschooled but I've sometimes thought about it. I believe the education can be even better when learning at home but the other aspect is the social side. Obviously I made a lot of friends outside school but many friendships were also made there.
How was it with you, if I may ask?
I had a unique experience in that I was raised in the wilderness on a ranch without anyone else my age close by. But I still caught up in socialization in my teens when I traveled across the world.
I think homeschooling can have zero social negatives, but you have to have a plan. Enroll them in other activities like sports etc.
Yeah, this sounds good! Sports was definitely one social side I forgot to mention and can easily fill that school social gap. 👍 I think it could be actually better cos kids share the same interests which could lead to making more friends
In New Hampshire, you can enroll homeschooled kids at sports programs at the local public school.
Aah, that makes sense!
So many threadcasts.

that's from 3 kobolds in a trenchcoat?
yes it is.
It is what we call a "micro-game" built in less then 30 days.
That's cool
You do those to test stuff for "full-sized" games or is it a business strategy?
So both.
awesome

Looks like development is slowing down even more... Hmmmm...
my thoughts exactly.
meanwhile we are speeding up!
to be honest, it would be a good thing to have a good (fun) finished game in the next few months.
fun is subjective.
but which game are you talking about?
and what is your idea of "fun"
i am a dead gamer :D so i am not talking specially about me.
It'll be a bit of a soft-launch, potentially only PvE encounters as people are getting annoyed by delays which is understandable - we've also stressed our gamedev way too much with game logic additions, it's quite packed for an alpha/beta.
Thanks!
Good to know that Holozing uses 3D assets, though. I'm not up to date with its news, so I didn't even know that.
Does it have (or planned to) a Campaign story mode?

Pretty funny that nobody is catching on here
We're buying up 1.5M $LEO so quietly that I've seen several people wonder if we're actually doing anything
LEO is a very tight supply token. Most of it is staked and it is very difficult to buy in large quantities
The best strategy has always been to buy in small quantities consistently over a long period of time. Allowing the other blockchain listings of LEO to be arbitraged back to the native token
https://inleo.io/threads/view/leostrategy/re-leothreads-nxsbdjrr
With the right moves you should be able to buy up even more than face value!
Yep, this is a strategic value arbitrage. It's nice to see that you get it!
just work your plan. stop being so sensitive about criticism.
that comes from making things.

Hahaha!!
It's ETH's time. You can probably make money from any crypto now in this bull run. I have to check which hasn't pumped yet 😀
If I want fiat payments to go directly into crypto, there's still Strike and Bitwage.
curious about your experience
I haven't tried getting paid in crypto yet. Looking at options.
Strike only deals in BTC/Lightning and offers bank routing info.
I have only just signed up for Bitwage, which seems more flexible. Bitwage also allows for invoicing.
That sounds good, but what's the play on that?
I don't understand your question.
My goal is to have paychecks direct deposited and automatically converted to crypto, most likely BTC.
Strike is BTC/Lightning only. Deposits are converted from 0% to 100% BTC.
Bitwage can also do full to partial conversions of deposits into combinations of BTC/ETH/USDT/USDC/BCH/CUSD
Interesting. Thank you.
