The construction of HTBL is expected to be completed by April 2030, contingent upon annual Congressional funding.
Doug Gage, Michigan State University’s Vice President for Research and Innovation, emphasized the importance of FRIB in advancing the university’s research objectives.
He noted that FRIB is integral to MSU’s goal of reaching $1 billion in research expenditures by 2030.
Gage described FRIB as a collaborative effort targeting innovation and significant advancements that could benefit various sectors.
Since its operations in May 2022, FRIB has positioned itself as a vital resource for scientific research domestically and internationally.
The 536,000-square-foot facility has been recognized for its timely completion and cost-effectiveness.

Since its inception, FRIB has focused on local investment, with over 94% of its procurements and labor sourced in the United States and 78% in Michigan.

FRIB’s ongoing projects, including the Single Event Effects Facility (FSEE) and the upcoming Chip Testing Facility (KSEE), aim to address the national shortage of testing capabilities for advanced microelectronic technologies.
