Hello friends and players of dCity,
my adventure on dCity started on June 19, 2020 and today, December 28, 2020, more than 6 months have passed since my first login (precisely 6 months and 9 days).

In this post I'll do some calculations to determine the profit and Roi I've gotten so far from my investment on dCity and to answer the question:

Is dCity a good investment?

Note: In the numbers in this report the comma "," and the period "." are both decimal separators.

Before proceeding with the evaluation of dCity as an investment I briefly introduce the game of dCity for those who do not know it.

What is dCity?

dCity is a simulation game that allows you to create and govern a virtual city.
The city is named after you and you must strive to make your city prosper.

I wrote a Tutorial on dCity, you can find it at the following address:
The address of the dCity website is: https://dcity.io/ The page with the main information is: https://dcity.io/info https://peakd.com/hive-140217/@libertycrypto27/dcity-tutorial-for-beginners.

Report Topics

Below are the topics I will cover in this monthly report of mine:

  • Valuation of dCity as an Investment
  • Total Investment Cost
  • Revenue
    • Estimated Value of my Card Collection
    • Rewards Value
      • SIM tokens
      • HIVE reward pool
    • Total calculation of revenues
  • Profit/Loss Calculation
  • ROI
  • My Current Strategy
  • Final Considerations

Evaluation of dCity as an investment

dCity more than a game is an investment and to evaluate any investment you should always consider:

  • the total cost of the investment
  • revenues produced by the investment.

Total investment cost

Until last month I had invested a total of 956.98 HIVE.
In this month, the total cost of my investment increased because I bought the following cards:

  • 16 Job Center Cards (42,848 SWAP.HIVE).
  • 20 Ad Agency Cards (92,268 SWAP.HIVE)
To buy the cards I used the MARKET section of dCity.

10.jpg

So today, December 28, 2020, I invested a total of 1092.10 HIVE on dCity.

image.png

With 1092.10 HIVE I created my virtual city.
Today my city consists of a total of 451 cards.

image.png

In the following image is the graphic representation of my virtual city.
Each colored circle identifies

  • a single card (the smaller circles)
  • a group of 10 equal cards (the bigger circles).

image.png

In the following image there is the detailed list of the cards in my possession with the indication of the names and the quantities.

image.png

Revenues

Value of my Card Collection

In order to calculate the profit and the Roi that I have obtained so far, it is important to quantify the total value of the cards that make up my city.
To determine the total value of the cards in my possession I compare two values:

  • the value indicated in the DASHBOARD section of dCity which is 327k SIM
    image.png

image.png

Both values are approximated and estimated and for this reason I consider only the lower value between the two that in this case is the DCITY STATS one.

image.png

As you can see from the image above the value of my city is 215286 SIM (December 26, 2020).

I repeat it is an estimated value because it is the result of the market prices of the cards in my possession.

As you can see from the image below the value in HIVE of 215286 SIM (Highest Bid on LeoDEX/Hive Engine) is: 1055.99 HIVE (December 28, 2020).

image.png

Reward Value

In the game of dCity there are two types of Rewards:

  • SIM tokens
  • HIVE reward pool

SIM tokens

My city produces every day a certain amount of SIM (Non Fungible Token) which is the result of the sum of the INCOME attributes of all the cards in my possession.
From the total it is necessary to subtract the taxes whose value is variable and today 28 December is 20,1%.

My city produces after taxes 1339 SIM per day.

image.png

1339 SIM are the equivalent of 6.56788873 HIVE

image.png

HIVE reward pool

On dCity there is a ranking based on the number of inhabitants of each city (Population).

To view the Ranking you have to click on the RANKING sign as indicated by the arrow in the next image:

image.png

The first 400 players in the ranking will share, in position-dependent parts, the 1% of the Reward pool.

image.png

My city currently has a population of 1680.

image.png

Based on the population of my city I occupy position number 435 in the dCity rankings and therefore I am not eligible for the daily prize related to the rankings.

image.png

In order to reach at least position number 400 and be among the awarded positions I would have to increase my population by 112.

image.png

Total Revenue Calculation

To calculate profit I consider total revenue as the sum of the following items:

  • Value of my card collection in the marketplace (estimated value: 215286 SIM = 1055.99 HIVE)
  • Total Token SIM accumulated on LeoDex/Hive Engine and not reinvested (41182.377 SIM = 202.0024 HIVE)

image.png

  • Total SIM tokens sold on Hive Engine in exchange for SWAP.HIVE tokens (503.29 HIVE).
  • Total HIVE obtained from the Leaderboard (45.05 HIVE)
  • Total BEER tokens obtained from the Brewery card in my possession (3.52 BEER = 1.05 HIVE)
  • Total WEED tokens obtained from Weed Farm cards in my possession (32.88 WEED = 4.37 HIVE)

Now I have all the data I need and can calculate the profit and ROI.

PROFIT

( Revenues - Costs )

image.png

Profit = 1811,75 - 1092,10 = 719,66 HIVE

My profit in dollars is 82,76 $

image.png

ROI

( Return On Investment )

If I divide the profit by the total cost of my investment I get the ROI.

image.png

After a little over six months I have achieved an ROI of 65.90%.

My current strategy

Thirty days ago I had decided to reach the break-even point before returning to investing in dCity.

I will reach the break-even point when the difference between total rewards received and not reinvested and the capital I initially invested equals 0.

A little over thirty days ago I was 156.27 HIVE short of reaching the breakeven point.

image.png

New Goal

I decided to change my strategy and set a new main short term goal:

achieve 3000 SIM daily gain.

So I started to invest again in buying cards and because of that I moved slightly away from the break-even point.

image.png

In the next few days I will continue to buy cards from the dCity market and as a result I will move further away from the break-even point.
I will use all the SIMs produced by my city to reach a production of 3000 SIMs per day.

When I reach my goal I will invest my daily SIM production in the following way:

  • 50% purchase of dCity cards
  • 25% Hive Power increase
  • 25% Leo Power

Final Considerations

Is dCity a good investment?

After four months the profit was 57.6 $ and the ROI was 42.41%.
After five months the profit was 73.70 $ and the ROI was 59.70%.
Today and after six months the profit is 82.76 $ and the ROI is 65.90%.
I can answer the title question with a definite yes answer: dCity is definitely a great investment (at least so far).
I am very satisfied and happy that I chose to invest in dCity.

But

Some important considerations must be made, however:

  • The value of my city on dCity is an estimated value.
On the market of dCity it is not possible to make purchase offers (Highest BID) and this is the reason why it is not possible to determine a precise and immediately monetizable value of the cards in my possession.
My city is worth 1055.99 HIVE if I could sell all my cards at market prices.
In reality, some cards are easy to sell and others less so.

  • There are many other factors to consider:

    • the future development of the value of SIM tokens
    • the number of players who will join dCity in the future
    • the future value of cards on the market...
    • the future value of HIVE

Important Note:

dCity more than a game is an investment and mainly as such must be treated.

In every kind of investment there is always a risk factor to evaluate and consider.

My report does not want to be in any way an invitation to invest in dCity but is only the analysis of my personal investment on December 28, 2020.

I hope you enjoyed this report and if you like, follow me to read my future posts and reports on dCity ;)

Your posts tempt me to try DCity too, but currently I can't spend any more time on a game. I currently play SPLINTERLANDS and RISING STARR, I don't want to take time away from these two games for now.

I tuoi post mi stuzzicano a provare anche DCity, ma attualmente non posso dedicare altro tempo ad un gioco. Attualmente gioco a SPLINTERLANDS e a RISING STARR, non voglio portare via del tempo a questi due giochi per il momento.

I have already read some very positive reviews about this game and about the rewards.

Later, I think I'll give it a chance.

Great to see your detailed analysis of dCity. So it can be profitable, if you know what you are doing. And that is legendary - a game that earns you profit. I am still at level 0.1 in my city, so to speak. Any tips perhaps? I guess I don't like to spend lol, though I see it is an investment.

Tips?
I don't know if mine is the optimal strategy but I'll explain what I do on dCityHi @julianhorack and thanks for stopping by :)

  1. I buy only cards that have the best Sim Income/$ ratio and that allow me to pay back the cost of buying a single card in maximum 120 days
  2. I buy only from the market and I never buy random cards

Many thanks, I appreciate your mayoral perspective and experience lol.

I feel like I am just pumping more and more money into my city and it is not growing at all. In fact, I didn't do anything with my city for about a week and I found that my SIM income had decreased. It was pretty depressing. I am not sure how much I want to keep throwing into it for the return I have (or haven't) been getting. It is fun, but not very lucrative for me.

dcity allows you to choose between different strategies
My strategy is focused on increasing the production of SIM tokens.
I don't think about ranking at all for example.
I choose cards based on the best SIM income/$ ratio.Hi @bozz

Which strategy do you follow?

Thanks for your comment

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am trying to generate as much SIM as possible. I think I am at about 344 per day right now.

Cool . what is your advice for a beginner ? Focus on population increase or Income increase?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

My advice is to focus on increasing income.
I buy only the cards that have the best Sim income/$ ratio and that allow me to pay back the purchase cost in maximum 120 days ;)
In my next post on dCity I will show how I choose the cards to buy ;)
Thanks for the comment and for reading my post
Have a nice dayHi @amr008
