We have been looking to change our cell phone service to less expensive plans. We have 2 prepaid plans from US Cellular which are month to month no contract plans. It's right around 38 USD each for unlimited talk, text, and data on 5G.
Spectrum has their plan at 25 dollars a month for the same features and you have to have 2 or more lines. They say they won't raise their rates but can't trust that.
Yesterday when I was on Coinbase doing something else I ran across the HELIUM phone service. They are super reasonable at 20 dollars a month for the same features. They were in the learning section of Coinbase so I went through their lessons and earned some crypto. I was wondering if anyone here has heard of them and/or uses their service. On the face it sounds like a good deal and they have been around since 2019. I think the cell phone service is relatively newer though. I'll probably poke around the site and learn a bit more but I think we may be moving to their service.
I haven't used it myself but if you have good Wifi you can run a node yourself. the coverage area is pretty small though you can look at their map for current coverage and you'll see other nodes around you.
Thank you! Yeah, I saw something about running a hot spot and mapping for low coverage areas to improve the network . I guess you can earn HELIUM that way to go toward your phone bill.
