Sorry to say I think Dune: Prophecy (2024) is heading the same direction as Foundation (2021). I was excited for Foundation, one of the best SF book series of all-time. But I had to give up before the end of season one. They made it the opposite of the book! It's supposed to be about psychohistory, the science of dealing with large populations of humans - and instead the TV show gave everyone unique abilities as if they were all superheroes. Really the only thing the TV show took from the books was a bunch of names of people and places. Very disappointing.
Dune: Prophecy right in episode 1 makes up a new character who wasn't in the book and gives him some tele-ignition ability (sets people on fire, from the inside, using just his mind). Did they think "ah there's no way fans will accept a show about a Sisterhood"? This is another very popular SF book series (even if this particular book maybe isn't the best of the lot).
Later we find out Voice doesn't come from years of studying the human involuntary nervous system, nah, it's just an ability that "happened" to someone. Another superpower.
Has Marvel just ruined all TV and movie making because now everyone has to have a superpower?
