Welcome to the 9th edition of Dcity Helper.
I was pleased to see loads of comments on my previous posts and i was already happy to see players asking me to take a look at their cities. In today's post we will be taking a look at one of the larger players @pouchon. The thing that surprises me about this city is the very high level of education. I believe in real life education is a measure of how civilized a country or it's citizens are, but in Dcity education is capped at 25%, which a score of 1000.
@pouchon's city has an education score of 5262, so it's save to say he's gone a bit overboard on the pursuit of knowledge and could benefit from some serious optimizing.
This is a screenshot of his city in it's current state.
Obviously having such a high education makes no sense. One option @pouchon has, is to move the education buildings to alt cities, with which he can discover up to 5 times more technology than with his current setup. However, as i am always one for maximizing SIM income, i will get rid of those universities, research centres, laboratories and schools and will replace them with income buildings.
As @pouchon owns the Free Internet and Open Source technology cards, his education already gets a boost of combined 15%, so i will sell off education buildings until the number gets to 1000. To simulate this, i will use as usual the buttons on the map page where you can turn buildings on and off for test purposes.
First i turn of all laboratories: He has 19 of them and their current market price is 6,46 hive, which gives us a total of 122,74 hive.
Next we will sell all his 121 universities. The current market price is 4,20 hive, which gives a total of 508,20 hive
Next we will sell all but one of his research centres. The reason we don't sell all of them, is that you need one research centre in order to be able to discover technology. That leaves us with 211 research centres to sell at a market price of 3,75 hive for a total of 791,25 hive.
Lastly we will sell 50 of his schools, leaving just enough to still get that magic 1000 education. Schools go for 2,75 hive, so the total here is 137,5 hive.
And this is what his city looks like now.
Education sits nicely at 1000 and SIM income has dropped from 47,308 to 46,268, since education buildings do make a very modest income as well. A decline of 1,040 SIM.
The next part i can't simulate onfortunately, since i can't add buildings in another person's city. But we will use the 1,559 hive we freed up from selling the education buildings to buy income buildings. Since education buildings tend to have a worse popularity to workers ratio than the buildings we will buy: Zoo's and Circuses, i expect to be able to free up 3 of @pouchon's Social Aid Offices, which add another 159 hive to the total.
So we have 1,718 hive to play with.
At the moment, both zoo's and circuses cost around 5,50 hive. Lets divide the amount in two and buy the same of each. This means we'll get 156 zoo's and 156 circuses.
This gives us an extra SIM income of 3,120 minus the 1,040 we lost, which leaves us with 2,080 SIM extra per day. Not as much a gain a i hoped for, but the reason for this is that the price of education buildings has dropped a lot, while the prices of income buildings have seen a steady rise.
Still this amounts to 759,000 SIM per year or 1,825 hive at todays exact peg rate of 0,005.
With the 3rd edition coming and the new tech that comes with it, i would suggest @pouchon to take the alternative route of buillding extra tech cities for now. I expect tech uildings to increase in price and selling them later would probably give more than selling them now.
I'd like to thank @onealfa , @rollandthomas , @thegoliath , @ecoinstant , @jrcornel and everybody else who supports my Dcity Helper posts, your votes matter and help me give away more cards on each new Dcity Helper post!

The extra tech cities are definitely necessary here. Even just one or two extra drastically increases chances of finding tech.
Then the rest of the education buildings could be sold to better advance those new cities to give some extra SIM in them.
Hopefully he decides something like this route and can start discovering with 3rd edition tech trees coming soon.
Yeah, there's seems little point in selling those education buildings at today's market prices. It's a shame, because he probably paid a hefty sum for them.
The best thing to do is go full on 3rd edition tech from multiple cities now.

Taking the term "Knowledge is Power" to a whole other level. :)
Good analysis, especially since bigger cities are probably harder to do.
Pfff, you have no idea. It's impossible to sort the on/off buttons on the map page, so i have to scroll through them to turn the right ones off. The bigger the city, the longer this takes. I think it cost me an hour just to get the right settings.

Haha, yeah. This already bothers me with just two pages. When a sort option eventually gets implemented, it will be a big quality of life improvement.
Exactly. And Pouchon had 59 pages. Go figure.

An ideal life is to make money playing games. And Hive along with dCity seems to facilitate that. Now I just need to learn how from your posts. I guess I will have to spend some of my Hive to invest in items for my dCity. Which will bring the profit you mention.
Another great post. I'm now really intrigued by Dcity to start a city myself. Maybe I can start the right way and earn at an optimal percentage of my investment. Wish me luck!
