You don't have to shy away from them. You can always use the ones pointed out by @emaxisonline on the post. They are quite beneficial too.
Of course I understand, but just stick with the ones he mentioned in the post first.

because #threads is actually comments, but if you use the wrong tag unknowingly you get reprimanded on some front ends, then again if you dont use a tag at all nobody sees your posts and it pointless to write or do anything #catch22

not so much on threads no but on #hive all together on some front ends, but no tag usually means nobody is going to see your post
You are talking about post tags, those are different things than tags in a thread, but on #threads it's all good.
Not really tho , if you aren't seasoned in the chains "etiquette". A tag is a tag to a normal person
