Do you love going to the market? Well yes i do, but sometimes I don't, it all depends on the weather and maybe who I'm going with... I love going with my mom to the market, but I've also learned to go on my own and buy things we need or for my personal use.
Let me take you on a walk to one of the biggest markets in Nigeria....
The china of Africa : Ariaria international market
First watch the video below: 🙂
Youtube linkDid you see that? Ariaria is a market located in Aba, Abia State nigeria and it is one of the biggest in west Africa. This market is nicknamed the china of Africa, it is nicknamed this because of it's versatility in making leather work and wears.
This is the market where skill meets skills. Men, women and children with their great talent at its best.
What happens in the market is mostly buying and selling, but also skill acquisition.
Now join me and ill show you my experience international market Ariaria...
Many dress sellers make the dresses themselves, they also bring employers to help them out because it's a mass production.
Some buy the dresses from other dressmakers to resell.
he best clothing styles are found here, they also sell imported wear from china and other countries. It's no wonder that many leave their city, travel to this market to buy clothes.
Moving further you get to where jewelries are sold. Follow me to the jewelry sellers:
Jewelries that are sold here are mostly for cultural use, all the tribes of Nigeria can find their type of beads here. Foreign made chains are also sold here..
Its hard not to pick something for yourself when you're at this market, for me I picked the below for my mom:
This cost about 0.521 Hive at its current rate
My mom wanted to buy a wrapper for herself for an occasion they have in church, so we also went to the side where this is sold. That's where I took these pictures below:
while walking back home, I also took pictures of where wigs are made and sold, they make a lot of sales everyday, most of them also sell attachments for braids.
The market is very big that there are different big sections for one particular stuff so you easily get what you want in different places and you get the chance to negotiate the best prices.
And these items are gotten at their cheapest rate here. there are areas for foodstuffs called freezone and there you can get the cheapest food items.
They also sell electronics, healthcare products, Cosmetics, Sewing materials, building materials etc. Its hard not to find what you want in this international market.
I also made a little video of some areas in the market, see below:
It is simply the best!
The challenge
Challenge? Yes, there is always a challenge. And for this market it is bad road. Being among the biggest market it should have the best road but it doesn't. During rainy days its very difficult to walk through the market road, there muds and floods on the road, so people pray that it doesn't rain when they are there at the market. This video below will give you a little sense of what I mean, You'll also see what da to day market looks like in Ariaria:
I hope this post gives you a little insight on how the market looks. If you're not Nigerian, I hope you have seen a bit of how we do our buying and selling, This was the main purpose of the post...Muchas gracias!

There are some very pretty dresses there! I see two in the photos that I'd like to see and see if they might fit me! 😀 Thanks for sharing this nice, big market near where you live!
There are many things in the market that will suit your taste, I'm glad you've seen some 🙂. Thank you for your visit!
Sad the people are not prepared to buy local, support each other rather than labels of another country. Many very talented people still earning an honest living using their hands to manufacture.
I always wonder why it's like that, but we are all used to it. They work hard to produce those things but it's given the label of other countries! Sad!
Label sells unfortunately even if it's a fraud!
