The GHAWG Diaries, Part 67

What's happening behind the scenes to bring new GHAWG content? The GHAWG Diaries is my recap of what I've been doing.

Cover image designed by @magnacarta using emojis and Excel 2007 for text. Minor edits made using MS Paint.

Introduction

There's more to #GHAWG than just daily zapfic entries and the spreadsheet I use to track them. There's research. There's review. There's also thought and inspiration. Then there are the tools involved in doing any of those tasks.

Just to keep things from getting scrambled in my head, and also to document for myself what I've been considering, I began keeping a diary of my activities as they concern #GHAWG. For that reason, I decided to share these diary entries with everyone on Hive blockchain (including the LeoFinance community at InLeo).

On Mondays which don't feature a GHAWG, Uninterrupted post (GHAWG-U)-- eventually replaced by GHAWG, Remastered (GHAWG-R)-- I'll post diary entries from the previous 7 days or between GHAWG-U/R posts if the time between them is short. TGD67 will have enough entries for 1 week. The first entry starts on 2025-April-07.

Before anyone scratches their heads at a few terms, here are 3 I began using many posts ago:

TermMeaning
Rat Bike[1]Code name for #GHAWG (the first and current zapfic serial)
Blue Lion[2]Code name for the middle zapfic serial in the GHAWG Universe
The Bronze[3]Code name for the final zapfic serial in the GHAWG Universe

📓 Should I make a stand-alone off-chain website for GHAWG? I'm 90% certain that I should. The other 10% is concerned with using as much as I can dApps on Hive blockchain. As far as presenting content is concerned, I can do it here. As far as engaging with readers and consumers of the content, I can do that here.

What is it which I cannot do here? Navigation.

Let me rephrase that: I cannot do navigation well on Hive blockchain.

Yes, I can include links to first, previous, next, and latest/last post on each page. However, those links have to be added manually each and every time.

Yes, I can include a calendar-like functionality like what we see on blogs from the world of Big Tech and Web 2.0. Once again, that functionality has to be added manually.

Yes, I can just list links to every post related to GHAWG content. As a matter of fact, that's the sticky post at the top of the blog page of my profile. Needless to say, updating this sticky post is a manual process, and at times it is a chore.

Can I automate content navigation? From what I've seen as a Hive account owner using Hive dApps, I don't think so. Then again, although I may have more flexibility and functionality available to me if I use a platform such as WordPress or Joomla!, I would still face limitations and restrictions. The question then becomes whether I can accomplish what I want with those restrictions in place.

An Excel (or compatible) spreadsheet would allow me to offer various ways to navigate The GHAWG Universe, including by random searches via lookup functionality. I know I would like it, but who else out there in the ether wants to use an online spreadsheet just to engage with blog? So I would need to offer equivalent functionality.

One thing I can do is debut GHAWG content on Hive through InLeo, then later I bring the content to the off-chain platform for a more immersive experience (or at least one with easier and more flexible navigation).

This diary entry isn't concerned with the stories I want to tell through the zapfic serials and later novelizations, but it concerns something which can affect the reading experience of whoever stumbles upon The GHAWG Universe thanks to a search engine or one of those "new-fangled" AGI services proliferating these days.

📓 Aside from the actual zapfic entry I publish daily (as close to daily as I can, anyway) to LeoThreads, I didn't do much for GHAWG today. Given the panic and hysteria in both the financial markets and the corporate legacy media, I spent Monday and Tuesday preparing a post regarding the so-called "Liberation Day" reciprocal tariffs. I wasn't able to locate photos of all the poster boards President Trump used for his "Liberation Day" announcement done outside The White House, so I ended up making a graphic version of part of one of those poster boards for the post's cover image. I also needed to acquire the URL for the source of the data. I found the data I needed at the Daily Mail Online, but the data itself originated at The White House. This makes the data public domain, but I need to indicate that.

The only way this post is even remotely related to GHAWG is by including a paragraph (and a footnote) using the abbreviation FAFO. I can do this because last week ►Finn◄[4] (►Lionel Odunsi◄[5], formerly known as ►Quartermaster◄[6]) mentioned ►$FAFO◄[7] as a memecoin he owns and gave his reason for owning it. So after 4:01pm on Wednesday 2025-April-02 President Trump dropped the FAFO bomb by declaring reciprocal tariffs taking effect. People didn't believe he would go through with it, yet he did. In my opinion, FAFO-- an abbreviation first coined by Elon Musk in 2022-- overtakes MAGA as the word to describe Trump 47. Regardless of whatever opinions we hold regarding the man or his politics or his conduct, "Liberation Day" was an unprecedented FAFO move.

📓 While ►Felix Legion◄[8] spends its last few days at ►University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill◄[9] as a group of 7 riders, things are also happening in ►Chicago, Illinois◄[10], US.

Last we checked, ►Lieutenant Terry Leo◄ [11] of the Chicago Police Department Auxiliary, he was mired in a ►media scandal◄[12] based on an Internal Affairs investigation which took place very early in his career with CPD. Although he was exonerated of the charges brought against him and his fellow police officers, it's also because of this investigation that he was reassigned to the Auxiliary. This unwarranted change in his career as a police office impacted his life in ways he still hasn't realized.

There will be another development out of Chicago regarding ►Terry Leo◄[13]. While I'm at it, I should also get ►Emilio Ibáñez◄[14], ►Luther Jackson◄[15], and ►Mrs. Hernandez◄[16] more involved. For Terry Leo, the ►African-American Republican◄[17] running for mayor in a city run by a supermajority of Democrats since the 1930s, I will feature him in a press conference where he goes off on his critics as he seeks help from the voters of Chicago.

I created his character in October 2024, long before I discovered in February 2025 that 🕸️FAFO🕸️ was a thing. Without knowing anything about FAFO, I envisioned Terry Leo as being the embodiment of FAFO in the context of life in Chicago. Had he remained in the regular CPD, he may not be as edgy or as ornery as I have shown him. Being shifted into the CPD Auxiliary against his will, however, changed him in a major way.

📓 Today I was considering the design of the Felix Legion logo ►Templar◄[18] would design for the yellow vests (in reality, sleeveless coats) he would issue. The Templar's Cross would still be a major element of this logo. However, it's the lion I was going to modify.

While doing research on the inspiration for Felix Legion (the ►Legio Quarta Flavia Felix◄[19] of Roman Emperor ►Marcus Aurelius◄[20] referred to by 🕸️Maximus Decimus Meridius🕸️ (🕸️Russell Crowe🕸️) in the iconic 2000 movie 🕸️Gladiator🕸️), I discovered that the logo for the Lucky Flavians of the 4th Legion featured a lion facing east.

The Legio Quarta Flavia Felix used the lion's body for its symbol and on its imagery. Templar's Felix Legion uses only the lion's head, facing east. Since I don't have a logo ready for display, I haven't settled on the final design of the lion's head.

The first version of the lion's head was going to be a regular lion's head with appropriate colors. The next version was going to be the text FELIX LEGION shaped to form a lion's head. I haven't mastered AI prompts for image design, so I gave up on this idea.

Today I was considering making the lion's head blue. This was going to hint at the sequel zapfic serial Blue Lion. A short time later I dropped this idea since Templar would have no reason to use blue for a lion. So I'm back at square one.

Although Templar would settle on one design execution, other versions of the logo can be recycled in Blue Lion as part of a merchandising campaign which is actually part of the story in the early parts of Blue Lion.

Even if I don't figure out the logo design for the current zapfic serial, Rat Bike, I will need to figure it out for the novelization which is in progress. Only after the zapfic serial is concluded will I reveal the title of the novel (or novels, one for each of the six segments of ►David Guardia◄[21]'s ►Epic Ride◄[22]).

📓 We know that ►Lindsay Etxeberria◄[23] was a ►far-left activist◄[24] when ►Our Heroes◄[25] encounter her in ►Portland, Oregon◄[26], US. What we don't know is how she became one. College was a major factor in molding her into the far-left activist she was when we find her. Another major factor is her family upbringing.

Was she rebellious as a child? Was she at least a centrist like her parents before college transformed her? Was she always a far-left activist? Did she fall into a bad crowd when she was younger? Were her parents pushovers? Were her parents too strict?

I haven't figured out what set of circumstances would lead her to being a professional far-left activist. Once I figure that out, then I can write zapfic entries showing how she interacts with her family once ►The Iowans◄[27] of Felix Legion arrive in her hometown of Atalissa.

📓 It's been a while, but I went back to digital maps to study the first hundred miles of the 6th and final segment of David Guardia's Epic Ride: from UNC to Davenport, Iowa. I noticed a couple of things in western North Carolina which I can use in the zapfic serial. Most of the action in this segment of the Epic Ride will take place in Iowa, but I'm looking for a place or two before then where I can develop The Iowans further. I still have time to extend the zapfic queue.

📓 A few weeks ago I modified the spreadsheet I use to manage published zapfic entries to manage footnotes featuring frequently-used terms. The table I created uses advanced text processing to generate Markdown code for the footnotes I include in my GHAWG posts. It also pulls datetimes for the relevant published zapfic entries.

The table returns the datetimes I need most of the time, but there is a situation where the table returns the #N/A! error: content not part of the actual zapfic serial. Although the term can be found in a microblog entry I published to ►LeoThreads◄[28] or even a top-level post to Hive blockchain, the entry is not a zapfic entry. This means that entry wont be recorded in the zapfic spreadsheet.

One workaround to add the datetime for these particular footnotes is to embed the datetime into the text to be processed, then to place the extracted datetime into the datetime field. This means the formula to place the datetime in the field needs to be changed from a declarative formula ("do this, period") to a conditional formula ("if TRUE, do A; else do B").

The original formula needed to be wrapped by the ISNA() function, then the ISNA() itself is wrapped inside an IF() function. This is the essence of what happens. To get each piece of the conditional formula to work as intended, various other functions and formulas are used. The final result is the datetime for the item referred to by the footnote.

Google Sites is low/no cost and works like a wiki. You can reorganize pages without breaking links. The urls change, but the links update. They aren't super customizable. But you also don't have to worry about updates or getting hacked. And you can use custom domains. The only problem I've had is with www versus naked domain. I don't know which doesn't flip to https, which breaks the redirect.

Thanks for the comment and suggestion. While I have no doubt that Google Sites gets the job done, I stay away from Google as much as I can given it's history of the last 10-15 years. It's enough that I use Android phones and occasionally Chromium (not Chrome).

I don't mind making manual changes, but I don't want them to be difficult to make. If I know what I want to change, I want to go directly to the area needing the change. I don't want to have to go through all that came before it first; that's where I am using the Hive dApps.

Perhaps dblog.org

I checked out both dblog.org and blog.engrave.dev. Blogs at those sites look better than we we normally see on the main front ends, but navigation is still a concern for me.
