What's happening behind the scenes to bring new GHAWG content? The GHAWG Diaries is my recap of what I've been doing.
Cover image designed by @magnacarta using emojis and Excel 2007 for text. Minor edits made using MS Paint.
Introduction
There's more to #GHAWG than just daily zapfic entries and the spreadsheet I use to track them. There's research. There's review. There's also thought and inspiration. Then there are the tools involved in doing any of those tasks.
Just to keep things from getting scrambled in my head, and also to document for myself what I've been considering, I began keeping a diary of my activities as they concern #GHAWG. For that reason, I decided to share these diary entries with everyone on Hive blockchain (including the LeoFinance community at InLeo).
On Mondays which don't feature a GHAWG, Uninterrupted
post (GHAWG-U)-- eventually replaced by GHAWG, Remastered
(GHAWG-R)-- I'll post diary entries from the previous 7 days or between GHAWG-U/R posts if the time between them is short. TGD68 will have enough entries for 1 week. The first entry starts on 2025-April-14.
Before anyone scratches their heads at a few terms, here are 3 I began using many posts ago:
Term | Meaning |
---|---|
►Rat Bike ◄[1] | Code name for #GHAWG (the first and current zapfic serial) |
►Blue Lion ◄[2] | Code name for the middle zapfic serial in the GHAWG Universe |
►The Bronze ◄[3] | Code name for the final zapfic serial in the GHAWG Universe |

📓 My plan today was to port more zapfic entries to the novelization of Rat Bike
. At this time, David Guardia and ►Rhonda Bella◄[4] are making small talk just after they meet. I also wanted to add a new wrinkle to their first meeting at the bar Rhonda's hometown of ►Davenport, Iowa◄[5], US. By the time I called it a night, I had done neither.
Instead, I went back to the beginning of the novelization in order to add to David's description. Before he engages in any sort of battle--
mainly self-defense, but also a physical contest or a life-changing struggle-- he cracks his neck. Most people crack their knuckles, but that's not as visually helpful as neck cracking. It's also not cheesy like some catchphrase some movie heroes use. He may end up with his own cheesy catchphrase, but so far none has come to mind.
Going forward, I'll make use of this neck cracking in Rat Bike
, but in the novelization it will be with David as close to the beginning as possible.
I should do something similar for the other major supporting characters. For now, these include Rhonda, ►The Twins◄ [6], ►The Kids◄[7], ►Harry Hoqualogue◄[8], and ►Lindsay Etxeberria◄[9]. Due to the nature of his character, I won't do this for the ►uncanny Manny Rey◄[10]. For future major supporting characters, I can do this from the start in both Blue Lion
and The Bronze

📓 I've been trying to figure out how to relate Miranda Bermudo to David Guardia so that their first meeting in Blue Lion
makes sense no matter what. She is meant to be his lawyer during the time he serves his prison sentence. in the second half of Blue Lion
and the first half of The Bronze
. She was also supposed to have another role for David Guardia.
Last week I thought I had it figured out, even doing some calendar arithmetic to establish their earliest connection before the start of Rat Bike
.
This weekend, I came up with a better character who can serve both purposes. It's a character I introduced in the novelization of Rat Bike
in order to bring to life a scene from the ►flashback sequence◄[11] David had before he entered his ►10-day coma◄[10-day-coma] in ►Le Claire, Iowa◄[12], US. Like Miranda Bermudo-- yet to debut in The GHAWG Universe-- this character will also be David's lawyer working to get him free from prison. This is where the similarities end between Miranda Bermudo and this new yet-to-debut character.

📓 Although I let myself get sidetrcked on updating what exists of the novelization of Rat Bike
, I updated some zapfic entry datetimes to UTC format. When I publish updated versions of the Weekly Summaries to Hive blockchain, I will use the GMT-formatted datetimes.

📓 One thing I need to be careful with is names. I don't want any of the characters to have names belonging to real people, but I can't really control that. Except in cases where a common name is being used, such as "John Smith" or "Jerry Jones," I want the characters' names to be unique.
I know for a fact that Harry Hoqualogue is a unique name because I made it up expressly for GHAWG. By virtue of having Basque ancestry, Lindsay Etxeberria's name is unique (especially when combined with an American given name).
All other names may or may not be those used by real people, people I've never met or even discovered. For David Guardia, there may be many men with that name in the country; I can't do anything about that. In the case of Rhonda Bella (before and after her marriage to David), I thought giving her the first name Rhonda would add to the uniqueness of the character name. However, the family name can be found in both Italian and Spanish. There's a good chance of a real person having this name.
►Terry Leo◄[13], one of the newer characters of Rat Bike
, has a name which is common enough to appear on {}LinkedIn{} over 20 times, but I will keep this name for that character.
One name change I will make when I port the zapfic serial code-named Rat Bike
to novel format is the family name of The Twins. I wanted ►Hank◄[14] and ►Frank◄[15] to have Russian-Ukrainian ancestry, which is why I made their family name Marchenko. Henry "Hank" Marchenko and Francis "Frank" Marchenko seem to be unique enough names. Oddly enough, the collective name I like to use for them-- the ►Brothers Marchenko◄[16]-- appears unrelated to GHAWG in the first 20 entries of the Search Engine Results Page. While I can refer to them as the Marchenko Brothers, it doesn't have the same ring to it for me.
So today I found an alternative family name which maintains all the other characteristics of Hank and Frank. The Brothers Marchenko of the zapfic serial Rat Bike
become the Brothers Yurchenko in the novelization. When I start work on sequel zapfic serial Blue Lion
, Hank and Frank will bear the family name Yurchenko.

📓 I figured out where I was going wrong in my writing the first meeting between David Guardia and Rhonda Bella in her hometown of Davenport, Iowa, US. This meeting took place over several zapfic entries, and I'm adding elements never seen in zapfic format. Some of these elements simply never occurred to me at the time published the zapfic entries to blockchain. Other elements just add dimension to details noted in the zapfic entries. At least one element hints at a discovery David will make at the end of his Epic Ride when he gets to settle down near Davenport with wife ►Rhonda Bella Guardia◄[17].

📓 Today I extended the zapfic queue to 2025-May-21. At that point, ►Felix Legion◄[18] ends its layover at ►University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill◄[19] after spending time with The Kids on their turf. Their departure takes place after an eerie experience taking place at a student-run coffeehouse on campus. This scene also offered me an opportunity to remind regular readers of events which took place earlier in ►Templar◄[20]'s ►Epic Ride◄[21].
It occurred to me that I could include an epilogue to Rat Bike
. The Epic Ride ends in Davenport, Iowa, US with an amusing scene featuring David and wife Rhonda. The epilogue-- think of the end-credit scenes characteristic of movies by Marvel Studios-- will feature Terry Leo, lieutenant in the Chicago Police Department Auxiliary and African-American Republican candidate for mayor, asking the voters for help before he tells off local media with profanities. Given what most people think of Chicago and its electoral composition, the election of Mayor Terry Leo will be one of the greatest miracles in American history. The realization of this long-term prophecy in 2031-- made in October 2028 when David Guardia spoke to the people of Chicago at the ►Obama Presidential Library[22]◄ in ►Jackson Park◄[23]-- is meant to be a manifestation of God's power in this sphere of human life.
Another epilogue scene will feature Harry Hoqualogue and ►Jardani Roma◄[24], only I haven't figured out how it would unfold. However, it will involve Harry-- by this time, retired from ►The Mongols◄[25]-- looking for staff to help him in his business venture providing motorcycle escorts for hire.

📓 Yesterday I extended the zapfic queue to 2025-May-21 by adding 16 entries. Today I rewrote a few of those entries. The revisions make the adddition zapfic entries flow better when read than what I had written yesterday. Together they form a scene which ends Felix Legion's multi-day layover at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
That scene taking place over those 16 zapfic entries is a bit of a downer, but it also foreshadows events taking place near the end of Templar's Epic Ride after The Iowans reach their respective destinations in Iowa. First, ►Fonzie◄[26] gets taken to her hometown of Atalissa. Next, ►Nitrous◄[27] and ►Rothbard◄[28] end their ride in Cedar Rapids. Finally, ►FL-Shieldmaiden◄[29] leads husband Templar to her hometown of Davenport.
In case anyone is wondering, ►The Iowans◄[30] isn't a name change for Felix Legion. Instead, The Iowans are simply Felix Legion without The Kids, now that ►Triumph◄[31] and ►Finn◄[32]
are at UNC. Felix Legion consists of groups known as The Kids (Triumph and Finn, and for a while Lindsay Etxeberria before she earned the MC name Fonzie), The Twins (Nitrous and Rothbard; alternately known as the Brothers Marchenko), and ►The Newlyweds◄^The-Newlyweds] (Templar and Shieldmaiden). The Iowans consists of The Twins (Brothers Marchenko), The Newlyweds, and Fonzie. Only Templar, David Guardia from New Jersey, is an Iowan by marriage.
