A German company, Sono is planning to launch its solar car in 2023 into the European market. The car is called the Sion and will be priced at US$ 25000.
Th car is expected to operate for 70 miles a week only on solar power. For longer journeys, it will be like an electric vehicle (EV), with an autonomy of 190 miles after a full charge. It will use a lithium iron phosphate battery. It could be charged to 80% in 35 minutes using a special charging station.
In my opinion, it is a good start, however, it has the problems of the use of a lithium ion battery and a pretty low autonomy. Lithium mining is a very polluting and energy intensive enterprise. In addition, electricity is still majorly generated from fossil fuels and the electric grids are not ready for a massive number of EV's. It would be interesting to see a hybrid car solar (electric)/gasoline.

I heard of lithium causing pollution befor. If there will be more cars, there would increase the consumption of electricity. It would increase the demand, so the supply would be expensive
This is like the early stage of EV's so we should expect something like hybrids anytime soon.
Lithium pollution is really bad. How about hydrogen?
70 miles a week does not look too good
