Why I’m Bullish On Splinterlands For 2025 | Splinterlands #404

As 2024 comes to a close, we look forward to 2025 and my continued hopes for splinterlands despite the many ups and downs it experienced. The project has consistently demonstrated its staying power. Here are the reasons why splinterlands is primed for 2025.

NFT Ownership

Unlike traditional games where you spend money on assets you don't own, splinterlands allows you to buy NFTs to buy, sell, rent and trade your NFTs and tokens. This is the principle of Web 3.0 and splinterlands lives and breathes this as its core purpose and principle.

The concept of owning and earning through playing the game and being yours is something many people fail to see in traditional games. There are countless articles and even a subreddit (r/DeadGames) that focuses on games that didn't survive the test of time. Splinterlands is different and it is not just a fly-by-night gimmick - it should be attracting more attention as soon as people realise the long-term potential it may offer.

Accommodate the Masses

While splinterlands has printed a significant number of cards, especially during the Chaos Legion edition and therefore if the game does blow up in 2025, there will be enough cards for everyone to get them cheaply. In the 2021 Crypto NFT bull run, the prices of cards spiked to stupid levels, but since then, the supply of cards has suppressed the price of cards to very cheap levels and therefore if there was mass adoption of splinterlands in 2025, players will be able to get in cheaply.

Also, with splinterlands governance token (SPS) going for a literal penny and less, as more players join and stake SPS to access better rewards, the competition for this token will increase. SPS has a fixed supply of three billion tokens and currently only 50% has been printed. As more players join, the demand will increase and have positive effects on the price of SPS.

Splinterlands doesn't need millions of players, like the many Web 2.0 games, but it does need to 5-10x its core group of daily players to drive growth in the game's economy.

Land 1.75 Expansion

With the upcoming Land 1.75 update is another reason I am feeling optimistic. I wrote an entire post about the Land 1.75 update here and if we see it being released in Q1 2025, then it will be another step in increasing the utility for splinterlands NFTs. There are many games in Web 3.0 landscape punting virtual real estate and land ownership, but many of them don't have much utility whereas in splinterlands Land offers another way to engage in the game and profit. With the addition of resources like wood, stone, and iron, Land 1.75 will require more strategic management while becoming a vital part of the economy.

Also, once Land 1.75 releases, we hope for more updates on Land 2.0 which should be revolutionary in the NFT space. And that's what excites me most of how Land integrates with the broader splinterlands ecosystem. It's not just about producing resources - it's about creating an interconnected ecosystem of trading, and playing. So even if you are a non-land owner, you will be able to participate by finding trading opportunities. These mechanics will ensure that even non-landowners find opportunities to participate through resource markets and other collaborations.

Splinterlands Personal Outlook for 2025

I know I am biased as a longtime player of splinterlands, but I do feel that splinterlands is primed and ready for a breakout year in 2025.

  • The constant stream of updates and releases -- The splinterlands team is constantly pushing out updates and new releases for the game. This bodes well as it's a dev team that is engaged and committed to the long-term success of splinterlands.
  • New Ambassador program -- this new program will incentivise many content creators again to push splinterlands to their wider community and audience. This only bodes well for the game and potentially bringing in a new slew of players to the game.
  • Marketing push -- with the recent appointments to the splinterlands team, 2025 will see a marketing push for splinterlands.
  • Land 1.75 updates -- Land 1.75 will introduce more gameplay elements to Land and will look to stoke its fire again. Hopefully, this will be another push for players who have left splinterlands to come back again.

Ultimately, splinterlands is a niche game with a dedicated and passionate player base and therefore it doesn't need to dominate the gaming market to succeed. But it does need to have another mass adoption cycle to bring more eyeballs to the game and ensure those green candles will stir the hype cycle again.

Concluding Thoughts

Its fair to say that splinterlands is just not a game -- it is an entire ecosystem where players have a stake in determining its future. With the constant stream of new features, sustainable tokenomics models and a loyal player base, I am excited and hopeful to see what 2025 has in store for splinterlands.
