I remember watching the announcement as a teenager (as Australia was also in the running for the 2022 World Cup) and we thought we had a decent chance. Like you mentioned, nothing wrong with the influx of money and joy of football to a small country, unless it is building infrastructure that will largely go to waste. I really hope they can pull off something great, but I'm not holding my breath.
