dCity has recently become my one of the most playable games on Hive in terms of time spent. I used to just check how my city was doing and how much SIM I was earning. Now I spend at least 10 times more time than I used to on this really good growing game. An idea came to me while playing dCity. I want to see if we can make money by buying random cards. Think of it as a simple experiment for fun and a demonstration of how again I spend money.
I've seen posts regarding the estimated profits from opening Splinterlands packs and I've started to wonder how this relates to dCity. There's no way to know other than to check it out. I'm going to allocate about $63 for this purpose. I bought 112 HIVE for an even $50 and sold 0.0195 BCH for $13 to buy another 29.28 HIVE for $13. In total we have 141,221 HIVE after commissions to play with dCity.
I will deposit my HIVE on beeswap because it has the cheapest commissions to convert HIVE to SWAP.HIVE and vice versa, I recommend to everyone. I got 140,868 SWAP.HIVE which I immediately converted to SIM. Remember to buy cards for SIM rather than HIVE as they cost 800 SIM and 4 HIVE and 4 HIVE is about 1800 SIM so always pay attention to the exchange rate.
I checked the composition of my city and it came out that I have many more second edition cards than third edition cards. I decided to buy second and third edition cards in a 1:3 ratio, so if I buy 100 cards, 75 of them will be from the third edition.
Okay, I got 62496.815 SIM from the exchange via Tribal DEX. Time for the second stage of the experiment, buying cards. With that many SIMs, I can buy 78 cards, 59 of which will be from the third edition.
Bought! On the dCity discord from the bot I got information about what cards I managed to get. I made a corresponding chart.
The total selling price of these cards at this point is 55513 SIM. Considering that I paid 62400 SIM for the cards it comes out that I am down 6887 SIM or 15,552 HIVE or $6.85. Honestly, it's not that bad. Considering many of the cards were very cheap it was actually the parking that saved me, which costs almost 9000 SIM.
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied. I'll take the loss, but now I have to find a way to hire 412 people at a low cost, because 42 cards don't work for me! But this is already a question of optimising the functioning of my city. I have to develop the city anyway, so at least there was some excitement.

I tried to det back I to dcity last week and they had made so many updates since last time I logged in that I was lost. But Im a get it figured out.
Dcity is actually one of m’y fave games I’ve played on hive, and I’ve been having nft cravings lately so Dcity is a must!

I was wondering.... since SIM price is up, I have noticed the card prices on the market slowly grinding up as well, I bet before too long this could be profitable again!
Interest in games on Hive is growing and growing, probably due to Splinterlands. I wonder what the price of dCity cards will be in a month or a year
If the percentage indicated on the "Info> All cards list" is the probability of getting a certain card, then it should be quite straightforward to compute the profitability.
There's probably a way to poll the API about the current highest bid on every card and make the calculation!

Sure, but calculations are calculations. I wanted to test for myself how it would look in practice. Sometimes you can get the rarest cards and the most popular ones hardly at all. Pure maths.
Yup, It only would make sense when buying at least 1000 cards. And even with 1000 we would not be sure to get the 0,1% probability Warehouse (or could get 2 who knows ... ).
I posted it just because it had crossed my mind last week and the coincidence made me react !
