Another part of the @dcitygame guide, and today we'll talk a bit about Technology, what it is, what it's responsible for, and how to make discovering new Technology more effective. Let's get started!
As you probably already know, dCity is a game based on many mathematical mechanics as well as randomness. One of the responsibilities of running a high-performance city (in terms of earnings, education, ranking, etc.) is the need to optimize it in many ways. Technology is able to help us with this.
In dCity we have an extensively developed technology tree that allows us to obtain various highly desirable bonuses. The tree is divided into 6 different branches, each containing 5 technologies. In total we have 30 of them, so cards that will give us bonuses are quite a lot.
But from the beginning, before we start playing with technology we have to tell ourselves about one very important thing. Unlocking a Technology is not discovering a Technology It can be confusing, I was surprised when I bought my first Technology and didn't have it. That's the point. Buying a Technology is actually buying the possibility of discovering a Technology, this should be noted because there could be more people like me. The purchase price for unlocking a Technology increases as follows: 30 -> 60 -> 150 -> 500 -> 1000 SIM
Unlocking a Technology can be done once every 36 hours. So if we bought the first unlock, we have to wait for it before we can unlock another one. Of course we can do it immediately and reset the counter but it will cost us additional 900 SIM.
Now that we have covered the basics, we'll move on to discussing the individual technology branches.
- Control is the first branch, the technologies in it are responsible for reducing crime in our city and increase the chance of getting a citizen from Event.
- Education, as the name suggests, includes technologies that allow us to unlock Technologies more often, increase Education points and increase the frequency of citizen training.
- Automation is a more specific branch. It is responsible for increasing income from factories, general income and less workers needed.
- Utility is quite a strong branch if you want to increase income of your city. It adds income to farms, wind turbines or removes negative effects from Nuclear Plant.
- Economy, this is where you'll find technologies that boost your income from business cards like Offices, Central Banks and reduce the negative effects of Economic Crisis.
- Health is the last technological branch, where you'll find bonuses such as less sick people, increased income from Laboratories etc.
It is worth noting that the unlocking all of the Technologies in a given branch gives us a +1% bonus to the population.
Now, in the infographic below I'll give you some details about the Technologies, what the cards are called and what bonuses they give.
Now we know all about the Technology cards, how do we get them? There are actually two methods. We can either buy them on the Market or develop education in the city and count on the luck of discovering a certain Technology. This is the first and simplest way. If we want to quickly get the initial Technologies, it is worth buying them on the market. The cost of such technologies as Free Internet Connection, Basic Accounting or Police Equipment is not high (at the moment the total cost is about 200 SIM) and immediately we have such bonuses as +5% to Education, +1 to Office income and 1% crime reduction with Police Station card. The second method is much longer to get through the initial entry threshold but can be more profitable in the long run.
To get the Technology card we need to have education. The percentage ratio for the chance of card discovery is 40 points of Education equals 1% chance of discovery. We can have a maximum of 25% chance to discover Technology. When we go to the Technology tab of our city we will see the whole branch and the chance to discover a card.
As you can see I have 200 Education points which translates into a 5% chance of discovering a technology. Now if you look at the individual technologies in the upper left corner you will see the percentages. These are the percentages for discovering the given card. As you can guess, the further the card in the branch, the lower the chance to discover it. This is the mechanism of something for something, a great card but a small chance. Returning to the education, we can quickly increase it by having cards that add education points. These are for example Artists with Education, Laboratories, Schools and Universities. If you do not know how much Education you will receive after buying the cards, you should calculate it in the Simulation tab, a really cool tool. Finally, the chance to discover takes place every 24 hours at 18 UTC.
You may now be wondering what to go into, what branch to max out. The question here is very hard. You can go as I did, which is a little bit of everything, or you can adopt a given strategy that you will unlock such Technologies, which are very expensive on the market. That is, an approach based on having a very high chance of discovering and selling additional, unnecessary Technologies. The choice is yours.
This will be the end of today's tutorial, I hope you have learned all you need to know about Technology. If you want to know more about any topic, check out the official dCity discord, where you can find answers to all your questions about the game. See you in the next tutorial where I will talk about SIM Power and the use of SIM in the game in general.

Oh dear, sorry for the mistake. I've written unlock and discovery so many times that I've gotten myself twisted in the nomenclature. Thank you so much for correcting me, I'm already changing it.
