Social Media Influencers And Web3

Some people might already know what I am about to write but hold on for a minute. Have you heard of social media influencers or have you seen one before? These people play an important role in the web3 industry and at the same time, they are also responsible for some of the problems blockchain technology is facing right now. Social media influencers are people with a massive following whose actions have a considerable impact on the blockchain. There are so many of them and recently it seems everyone wants to be an influencer hence everyone is canvassing for followers. As beautiful as it might appear to be, these people are making lots of money. And I guess, it's the reason, most people want a massive following.

Any web3 project that wants to see the light of day must pass through an influencer, if not, your project will remain unknown. A lot of people have failed to talk about the dark side of social media influencers, everyone is busy giving them thumbs up yet forgetting that they have done more harm than driving traffic to certain projects. As a result of understanding the power of social media influence, many project owners will come up with projects that will not benefit users but steal from them, then they will pay influences to promote such projects. This is the reality that lots of people have refused to come to terms with. Meanwhile, some good projects may not see the light of day because they lack wider coverage.

Some weeks ago, a new telegram mini-game hit the system and in less than a week, they recorded massive followers and participants. As it stands now, they have about 15.9 million subscribers on Telegram. With this, the owner of the project is already a millionaire. This is one of the ways of making money via social media and web3.

As a result of the interplay of social media influence on most web3 projects, it is becoming difficult though not impossible to detect fraudulent projects. Many people think that the more popular the project, the better it is, this is not so in many cases. I have participated in many popular projects that later became a fatal failure, and I have also engaged in many unpopular ones that became a success. For me, I think that #hive is yet to generate the popularity it is supposed to. As good as it is, it has not gotten to the knowledge of so many, I do my part every day to talk about Hive on my social media wall, and mostly the feedback is encouraging but more needs to be done.

If people with shitty projects know how to leverage the power of social media influencers, I don't know why projects with potential would not do the same. The truth is that web3 projects have come to stay and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Hence, social media influencers should endeavour they work positively towards the growth of cryptocurrencies by ensuring that they support projects with good potential that will help grow the system rather than drive people away.
