Yeah, I mean, the sky is the limit with this model. Many use cases that extend well beyond classic banner ads that lead away from the platform. I personally prefer consumers locked into the platform as much as possible, rather than being led astray, since their eyes so valuable. PeakD has a couple promoted slots on the main trending page. I think we can do way better. Once I have a moment I might write something up then the community can brainstorm around it.

I think you make a very good point about keeping people in the ecosystem. I think in SEO terms they are called internal links. Links on your post that link back to other authors in Hive's posts. This spreads the attention around, but keeps the eyeballs in the community. Combining this idea of banner ads and internal links would produce Banner Ads which link people to similar posts within the community. I think Links in facebook woprk this way and prolong the time people spend surfing Facebook. This idea may be very useful and can be implemented without code changes. Just colorful banners which catch people's eye and induce them to click on a link.
