CONTENT CREATION AND INCENTIVES

Ever since Elon announced X ad revenue sharing programme I have found myself drifting away from the web 3 space. I have created more content for my web 2 accounts and I fear I might continue to drift away from the web 3 space even further.

My journey in the web 3 space started in 2018 when I discovered I could monetise my content. This led me to leave the web 2 space where I had sufficient presence but did not know how to use it to my advantage. Now the story is different.

My social experiment on X has been relatively successful. I have not only been able to increase my impression and following but I have also found my way into niches that are almost non-existent in the web 3 space.

For instance, 80% of the 3 million impressions I have gotten in the last 2 months have come from commenting about sports and engaging in football banter. It is almost impossible reaching 3 million people in the web 3 space and increasingly more difficult doing so talking about sport.

One of the major bottlenecks of being a creator in the web 3 space is that you have to pander to a certain group, which I find very limiting. Also, there are no real metrics to estimate how much one can make, so for someone doing this full-time it can be very unsettling.

Also there is a threshold in terms of how much one can earn. This might benefit small creators or normies, but unfortunately these categories of persons find it even more difficult to earn in the web 3, so the system isn't entirely beneficial to small creators.

Content creation on web 3 platforms is also very tribal. It has less to do with content and more to do with the groups and people you identify with in the space making it hard for new entrants to succeed.

So when you analyze these points, you can conclude that there is little incentive to be a web 3 content creator. You are better off sharing your web 3 knowledge on web 2 where you can monetise not just your content but also influence.

Web 3 social platforms need to offer better incentives to attract quality users. Right now these platforms can only pull people from Third-world countries, however, with the competition in the web 2 space getting more intense, web 2 platforms are beginning to intencentive people to use their platform. It is going to get a lot more difficult for web 3 platforms to attract users because monetary incentives have been their major selling point.

I still use web3 social platforms to create content and socialize because they still offer better returns for my time (for now). However, what happens when my web 2 accounts get montised? I am already forgoing creating content daily to build my web 2 accounts, and this is coming from someone who knows the risk of building on web 2.

However I want to spin it, web 2 offers more (than just money) to the creator e.g exposure, monisation, endorsement, etc ironically, creators who build their web 2 platforms end up influencing for web 3 platforms and projects. That is enough reason to build on web 2.

In conclusion, my goal is to grow my web 2 and 3 accounts as a creator. I have realized that I need web 2 success to thrive in the web 3 space. It gives me more leverage as a creator and I would urge anyone who is serious about content creation to do the same.

Also at some point, if you are successful, it starts to irritate the Reward Pool Watchers.

So having a growth plan on both is not a bad plan if you take it seriously, I came thinking my time was an investment, but now I stay do to enjoying the community and staying connected to what is happening in crypto via Leofinance.

I have had private discussions with people who plan on leaving the ecosystem soon because of this reason. There will be fewer people to police soon enough.

I am very close to this point in my hive journey. Asides from trying to stay active as a content creator and improve, I am mostly here to support Leofinance and the work Dan is doing with 3speak.

Your insights into the evolving landscape of web 2 and web 3 content creation are thought-provoking.
It's understandable that creators seek tangible incentives for their efforts, and web 2 platforms seem to provide a more established framework for that, encompassing exposure, monetization, and influence. Your strategy of building on both web 2 and web 3 to leverage their respective advantages sounds like a prudent approach.
The interplay between these spaces is fascinating and speaks to the evolving nature of content creation in the digital age. 🌐💡
