When X announced their revenue sharing initiative I decided to become more active on the platform. I did not want to get stuck in the Web 3 niche based on what I gathered from other creators in the space, so I decided to try different things.
First, I tried the shitposter route. Making funny comments and replying with memes, and that got me some traction. I began to understand how the ALGORITHM works and how I could leverage it to my advantage. At some point, I made a comment that hit 200,000 impressions which is still the most impressive I have had to date.
However, it was difficult to maintain my level of engagement and it seemed like everyone was doing the same thing which saturated the space and made it less fun. So I decided to try something else. I followed a bunch of people in different spaces and niches. In my search, I discovered the football community.
I have always loved football, and discovering that it is the biggest and most active community on X, I decided to join and participate. I have been averaging 30,000 impressions on active days and that has taken me closer to my 5,000,000 impression goal (which will get my account monetised).
So obviously talking about football works for me. I am not an expert and, to be frank, I don't have to become an influencer in this space, which is mostly centred around fan rivalry and banter, hence the high engagement and impression. The issue now is aligning this with what I do on Hive.
I mostly talk about Web 3-related content on Hive, which unfortunately is the only type of content that gains traction around here. So switching to talking about football will certainly hurt my earnings. So I have opted to create an account dedicated to soccer.
I currently run the hivenaija-fpl league and I plan to grow that into something that I can align with my Web 3 persona. If I so happen to become a football influencer in the long run I can funnel my following into the web 3.
Unlike crypto which is seasonal, football is evergreen. There is always something to talk about, so content is never an issue. Plus it is something I and people I know also care about, so it will be a lot easier to bring them into my space. I don't have to do so much to get people to interact or collaborate with me.
Now, I haven't given up on Web 3 and crypto. There isn't much going on in the space that is newsworthy so I understand why most crypto influencers aren't getting so much traction on X or even anywhere. As a content creator, I need to follow the trend until I find something that works for me.
I understand we are all quick to find our niche and stamp our authority in certain communities, however, I want to be flexible as a creator with so many interests. What do you think? Share with me in the comment section.
