Imagine spending most of your active years behind bars and you get exonerated who a crime you did not commit in the first place. it is always disheartening hearing stories like this. There is no amount of monetary compensation can can cover for a life wasted
this is so sad and a bad experience humm I don't even know what to say
there are no words to explain the dread. This happens a lot in Nigeria. Many people get ailed for crimes they never committed and never get their fair hearing in court.
This news made me so angry. There's no way to compensate that.
The guy was playing pool in a different city for Christ sake!
the thought of it alone is driving me mad. 45 years! he would have died in there in prison. he lost the chance to start a family, fall in love and all the great stuff he would have done with his life. Now he is being exonerated in the latter part of his life and for what? money he would use to treat his aging body! it sucks
Driving me mad as well and this isn't the first time. Not long ago I read about a similar case. There's also the famous Hurrican Carter case and so many.
Something seriously wrong with their justice system. I wonder how many innocent people have been executed... This guy for example was first on death row but his sentence was then turned to life.
Really makes my blood boil. That life that was lost.
Heartbreaking. No amount of compensation can undo a life unjustly spent behind bars. The human cost of wrongful convictions is immeasurable.
this is why the juridical system needs to be faultless. People's lives are precious and a wrong judgement can ruin lives.
Absolutely. A flawless judicial system is crucial. Wrong judgments can irreversibly impact lives, emphasizing the need for a system that prioritizes accuracy and justice.
And then you have people executed for a crime they did not commit! Imagine that, I find it incomprehensible that the USA still has the death penalty.
Human life should be sacred. There are certain crimes that are disgusting and make the death penalty justifiable but i think it is an extreme measure
Making it justifiable yes but what if wrongly convicted. That is the dilemma though.
Oh so sad, really unfair to him. How did they not know he was innocent since the 48 years? So sad really.
Have you seen "when they see us"? it is a similar situation. One of the toughest movies to watch.
No I haven't, is it a series or just a full movie?
ehhhhhh that one is deep oooo, what a waste of time, an innocent man for that matter.
it is very sad, to say the least. I feel he deserves better.
not only you, I need a vacation to sleep and enjoy my life after this month's zealy.
a public apology and lots of compensation won't bring back the years lost.
Yeah, I also read the news about this, but it's better late than never. I lot of people have died in prisons for crimes they didn't commit.
I don't think we are ready for this conversation in Nigeria. The country is dysfunctional and these are the symptoms of a dysfunctional state
Yeah, although the above case happened in the United States
That's the truth, so many innocent people are in prison as we speak. It's so sad.
It's heartbreaking to water one's precious time behind bar for a crime he knows nothing about. May God help us all.
this is really heartbreaker , what a sad story.
How can you get jailed for what you did not do? This is pathetic
48 years imprisonment for a crime you didn't commit, that's a lot of wasted years. The system is just so unfair, thank God he's finally free.
I can only imagine, paying for a crime you never committed, it's just crazy
