First of all, I largely agree with you. The rules are set by the implementation, and it's fine for people to take advantage of them. If loopholes are being exploited, it's up to devs and the governance community to resolve it.
Doing minor things to increase revenue whilst writing solid content is acceptable in my opinion, it's only the gaming-the-system-while-producing-utter-spam that I have problems with.
Lastly, I think that if this community wants to open for a broad audience who give a fuck (in my book acceptable swear word very much intendeD), we should just not use the notion of "reward pool rape". Because that particular phrase just sounds childish and offensive.
N.B. I'm fully aware that you had to mention it because others did it before you of course, so no blame there!
