Thank you for this. Here's a slightly related question: Do you know of any place to get some good info for a beginning wannabe GPU shitcoin miner? I've been meaning to get into mining for years, but haven't pulled the trigger. I need to do it now though. I just don't know where to start. It's all so confusing!

Hi optout! Im glad my post could inspire you in some way. Mining is super fun, unfortunately finding a new GPU today that isn't sold by a scalper is quite difficult. If I where you I would check out Whattomine.com to see what your options are and also to evaluate whenever you break even. As you may know ETH is driving the mining community largely today so many are wondering what will happen to mining when it goes to Proof-Of-Stake (although my bet is that it will continue for a very long time after that).
Also remember that the GPU manufacturers have started selling cards with LHR, which means their hashrate is not what it used to be unfortunately.
My advice to you would be to simply put a gpu in your regular chassi if you can get good air flow and not bother with HiveOS or similar untill if you decide to get a rig with several cards. If you're just going to mine casually I think Nvidia 2060 and 2070 are solid cards that usually dont sell for all to high prices.
