Just four years ago, to feed a hundred Broiler birds from day old to six weeks, all the capital you need for the feeding alone which is calculated to be seven to eight bags was just ninety to hundred thousand naira compare to now that you need triple of that amount to feed a hundred birds. Meanwhile, the reason for drastic inflation of price of feed could be traced to the security issues that's affecting Farmers that are growing corn in Nigeria.
According to a Poultry Farmer in Abuja, she stated that the issue of insecurity and grazing are major reasons why there's an inflation in price of maize which is safe to say that maize is one of the major content in producing Broiler birds feed. So inflation of the price on the cost of production of maize has effects on the hike in price of feed for Broiler birds.
The system of grazing is being carried out by the Fulanis that go from places to places to feed their cattle and Cow. Even to the extent of feeding their cow and cattle on people's farm that have plants like cassava, maize, beans and may more. It's this system of grazing that lures insecurity, because there have been lot of news about how there has been loggerhead between these Farmers and cattle rearers.
In lieu of this aforementioned issues led to the availability of maize to produce these feed and those that managed to produce little, it became quite expensive for manufacturers to produce these feeds. The feed manufacturers considering the cost of production affected the inflation in price of feed.
Normally, if there is surplus in supply of maize, there would be no competition and hike in price of feed.
