BITTREX: Why Hive deposits/withdrawals are not available?

in LeoFinance3 years ago (edited)

Everyone makes mistakes. I made one too. A couple of weeks ago I transferred some funds to my Bittrex Global exchange wallet as I wanted to add some PKR tokens to my portfolio. It was in the form of HIVE as HIVE transfer fees are super low compared to Ethereum, BTC, etc.

I planned to sell it in exchange for USDT and then buy some PKR. It was not the first time and in the past, everything used to work fine. However, this time I forgot to check Bittrex HIVE wallet status and that was my mistake. It turned out that the HIVE wallet was Inactive. This is why my funds never reached the wallet.

I reached out to Bittrex Global support 3 times in the last few weeks. Their answer was always the same. It sounded somewhat like that 'Bittrex does not provide a time estimate of when an offline coin will come back online. We are always actively working to bring wallets in maintenance back online as quickly as possible... The transactions will start to process when the wallet is brought back online...'

QUESTION FOR MEMBERS OF HIVE community/veterans of the Bittrex Global exchange

I found those answers unhelpful as it still was not clear what was the real reason the wallet was inactive and how long will it take to fix the issue. After doing some research on the Bittrex Global community Telegram channel, it turned out that I was not the only one that asked these questions. A few other members of the Hive community were starving for some answers.

Do you have some info on the topic? Who else is waiting for some answers? Do we have some Bittrex Global guys on Hive that could leave a comment? Thank you. :)

i am sorry to hear about your funds being in limbo 😟

Thanks for this reminder to always check the wallet status before sending.

Up until the HIVE price spike in November, the wallet on the exchange, had been offline for a long time; at least a couple of months. With that price movement, Bittrex got the wallet fixed rapidly.

i checked on the @bittrex account using Hive Blocks and it shows a lot of transactions through December 9th (17 days ago). After that, only incoming transactions. i am assuming that your transaction is in there somewhere which would show that your funds arrived properly to the blockchain account.

When it works, they also accept HBD directly unlike some exchanges I can mention...

One minor point here is that your funds reached their wallet. They have the private keys but they simply don't feel like using the web-wallets to do so and they don't have hived running so they cannot do so locally.

They are keeping a degree of healthy suspicion about using web-wallets but the deposit system should refuse to give you an address and memo to send to. If you sent to an address+memo they had previously given you, I'd understand though.

It's shitty having thses issues. Now in the case of Binance it is much worse. If you have a problem when you paste your memo and miss a character, you can contact support with Bittrex and they will credit your account in a short while because with Hive is always clear where the funds came from. Not so with Binance. This happened to someone I know, and they kept all of his money without crediting him. Warn others. I warned Elon Musk on Twitter. I think it might have been more costly for them to refuse to return my HBD deposit than to refund it in the end.
