RE: 1898 Mexico Un Peso Coin

in LeoFinance6 months ago (edited)

Ah, yes the infamous and highly sought after 8 Reales make a cameo here.
I've actually never seen this peso before. At least I think... But that classic radiant cap is familiar! Is it also on some other coins?
This eagle is nice but my favorite reverse design is the "Porfirian" eagle of later decades.

Sort:

Yes, the radiant cap is in other coins as well. I collect 1888 coins, and the 1888 Mexican coins had it in all denominations.
I had to look up "Porfirian".

Porfiriato, the period of Porfirio Díaz’s presidency of Mexico (1876–80; 1884–1911), an era of dictatorial rule accomplished through a combination of consensus and repression during which the country underwent extensive modernization but political liberties were limited and the free press was muzzled.

Which eagle was that?

@proto26, I sent you an

Very similar to your eagle but this one specifically is 2D. The design disappears entirely around the end of his reign of terror as well. In 1905, the monetary reform also changed 'The Republic of Mexico' to 'United States of Mexico' on coinage.
