It's time for another quarterly stocktake of my blogging adventures on Hive.
As a quick introduction, I made my first post on 29 Sep 2021 and it was an introductory post about my Splinterlands journey. Since then, it has been around 1 year and I have been actively posting and curating on Hive.
And I just want to say how grateful I am to be making friends within this community and receiving so much support, be it in the form of upvotes, comments, or even sharing of new knowledge.
So here's what I have been busy with over the past 3 months:
- Splinterlands: I have continued with my Splinterlands-related postings, including the weekly challenges, crunching card probabilities and statistics, and free card delegations! Feel free to check them out under my posts if you are in need of card delegations!
- Weekend Experiences: This was something new I discovered in Q2 during my random browsing of the Hive posts, and has now become one of my weekend posts. I really enjoyed challenging myself to come up with something interesting to share for the weekly prompts and I enjoyed reading other sharings within the community to. Finally, the curation committee are very generous with all the rewards when they see writers putting in effort to write a good post!
- World Cup 2022: It was the World Cup season and I couldn't resist the urge to write some posts about my predictions and I also did share some posts regarding how Statistics could be used to analyse betting odds.
- Freewriters: I have been diligently writing ZapFic entries for the Monday and Friday editions and I was extremely glad to be recognised as the winners/runners-up in a few of my entries.
- SBT: I was also quite involved in the SBT (Splinterlands Battle Token) project, by participating in the raffles, Discord chats and also writing posts to spread this awesome token and project.
Here's my top 3 posts for this quarter. Thanks again to everyone who has showed your support by upvoting my posts.
Now onto the financial aspects of my blogging experience, here's what I have accumulated so far as of 2 Jan 2023 (at time of writing).
Hive Wallet
Period | HP | Hive Price | HP (USD) | HBD | HBD Price | HBD (USD) | Total (USD) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2021 Q4 | 113 | 1.400 | 158 | 105 | 0.988 | 104 | 262 |
2022 Q1 | 254 | 0.979 | 249 | 184 | 0.992 | 183 | 432 |
2022 Q2 | 532 | 0.446 | 237 | 317 | 0.972 | 308 | 545 |
2022 Q3 | 973 | 0.491 | 478 | 508 | 0.981 | 498 | 976 |
2022 Q4 | 1394 | 0.259 | 361 | 657 | 0.991 | 651 | 1012 |
This has been another amazing quarter in terms of the accumulation of HP and HBD. Compared to the previous quarter, I have accumulated 421 more HP and 149 more HBD in my Hive Wallet. Apart from the rewards from postings, I have also traded/converted some Layer 2 tokens into Hive this quarter and this contributed an additional 24 Hive. I have also bought additional WORKERBEE tokens with HBD as well. All in all, my Hive Wallet has grown from USD 976 in the last quarter to USD 1012 currently.
Coffee Fund
Year | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | Total |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
2022 | - | 2 | 25 | 33 | 60 |
Total | 60 |
In the last quarter, I decided to formalise this process as my personal funding for my Coffee Fund!
The topic of profit-taking has been in my mind to reward myself and I have been spending some thought on how to do it in a sustainable way, as I still want to be heavily involved in the Hive community. So after exploring various options, I have decided to withdraw only my HBD interest as "profits" on a quarterly basis. Since HBD is going at 20% APR, it would be around 5% of my HBD each quarter.
For this quarter, it worked out to be 33 HBD. As to why it's called the Coffee Fund, it's because I am going to use the money to buy myself coffee while I write my posts or think of writing ideas at the cafe. Hehe!
Hive Engine Wallet
*only included tokens with substantial values, i.e. top 5 tokens
Token | Amount | USD | Description |
---|---|---|---|
SCRIBE | 465 | 38 | Curation under Scholar and Scribe |
LENM | 12 | 16 | Investment (Funded with 45 HBD in Q1 2022) |
SBT | 1.6m | 13 | Airdrop from SBT community and Curation under SBT |
WORKERBEE | 20 | 13 | Investment (Funded with 15.25 HBD in 2022) |
BEE | 101 | 11 | Curation under Hive Engine and Staking of WORKERBEE |
Total | 91 |
Have included a column this time to provide a description of the tokens so that it helps me keep track of my involvement in various projects.
Like I have mentioned before, unlike Hive and HBD, tribe tokens in the Hive Engine Wallet are more susceptible to massive price swings and have poorer liquidity, so these USD values are just for reference (i.e. likely lesser if I would to divest all at one go). This is also why I have separated the totals between the Hive Wallet and Hive Engine Wallet.
As mentioned above, I have continued to divest some Layer 2 tokens, and convert them to Hive. There are two main reasons to this. The first reason is because I realise most of the Hive Engine are seeing a decline in value (in terms of Hive). The second reason is converting to Hive not only helps to preserve some value (from the price decline), it also boosts my vote power and allows me to vote on good posts regardless of the tribe tags.
That said, I have also accumulated Layer 2 tokens that I find interesting such as WORKERBEE and SBT.
So that's I have!
As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead! See you in the 2023 Q1 update!
Amazing progress.

Interesting what you talk about the change of tokens to Hive, because I have very little knowledge about that and I am letting them accumulate because I don't know what to do with them.
I think there's no right or wrong way. I personally prefer Hive because it gives me more voting power for posts.
