The distribution of Hive Power has remained broadly similar for the three weeks from end December to January 20th.
I use @arcange's stats to produce these reports. The latest report is from 20th January, so whether these are now a thing of the past I don't know.
Maybe he's got a 'live' version planned? That would be nice!
I use the without delegation stats below. @arcange also produces the with 'delegation' distribution, but delegation is just 'patronage', not ownership, so I prefer to look at the 'owned' weightings, I think they're a more valid measurement of power distribution, which is what I'm interested in.
This analysis doesn't take account of the millions of liquid HIVE currently not staked in the DAO.

Commentary/ Analysis
We've seen a slight increase in Hive Power at the top end, and a slight decrease at the bottom end, so another slight slide to more inequality.
Still no evidence yet of 'the masses' flocking to Hive and powering up, but I'm sure that's just around the corner!
Notes...
I set @arcange as a beneficiary!

I'm not sure I understand what the "cumulated Hive power per level" means? I understand the % of MVESTS part. Is the "cumulated Hive power per level" like, the average amount of MVESTS in those accounts?
It's the same thing, I just call it something different - it's the sum of all the HIVE POWER in all accounts in that level.
Another whale is good, but it's not great that we are losing dolphins. I have seen a few people come back to Hive recently, so maybe they can build up their accounts. There was an effort a while back to help people get to the next level. Maybe we need more of that. We should encourage those who show commitment.

I agree, I do have a habit of only voting for people who are powering up rather than cashing out!
I don't generally check on that. Some people really do need the money though. I care more about whether they have good content and if they engage with others.
Even if it's a bit counter-intuitive, to have more inequality speaks well of the current health of the direction of Hive. Whales make the world go 'round, as they say. The long tail distribution will be better feed in the long run, I'm not worried about this. I consider myself a veteran in crypto, and I can tell you that HIVE is a gem waiting to be discovered. The noise by Ethereum, Consensys and all the groups heavily positioned in ETH in traditional social media is really high, is just a matter of time and marketing actions to make people test this blockchain and see how good it is. Thanks a lot for the report, highly informative!

Well believe me when I say that as far as I'm concerned I'm more than happy for a few ETH Whales to come invest in Hive!
I'm quite happy being a top 300 HP holder, but I'd be happier if I got booted down out of the top 500!
The upper end is heavier than the lower end. That may not necessarily be a bad thing though. Top heavy projects like Leo and the likes with strong hands holding the fort tend to do well.

I'd still like to see a wider distribution, in the interests of decentralisation!
Not bad at all looks like it's playing out well in terms of distribution and much of that I'm sure can be contributed to great curation!
I always forget how to look up what level I am or what it takes to hit each level.

You're an Orca, congratulations!
The easiest way I've found to look up where the levels divide is to look at where the colours change on Hive buzz rankings.
Maybe we could put peoples level next to their name or something to make more of a big deal about it.

You can already see it on hive.blog
My theory about that, based entirely on personal experience is that it's quite off putting until you hit Orca level, then it's great!
Just around the corner? I would say more like just a few steps away.

Whatever analogies we use it's still 'just not quite here yet'!

I think there's one more Orca in January as well looking at the two graphs?
It will be good to see how the comparison will look in March, one year on.

.A good steady ingress of minnows and dolphins is a great sign in my view. Orcas and whales is very specific... depends on businesses mostly I would say. I don't run one yet in my case, but if I had time I would.
Needless to say that it can still happen (it's never late). But for now, I will be just an Orca playing around and helping with what I can.

Yes I guess if there's a lot more dapps built on Hive requiring Hive Power that we'd see a few more Whale accounts for sure!
I think Orca level for an individual is plenty - and it's a wide category of course!
Yeah... Orca for me will be probably where I will hang most of the time. After that, it means I am up for building something bigger.
