Saturday Savers Club: Week 5

in LeoFinance9 months ago (edited)

Ever heard the old saying:

"This is the first day month, of the rest of your life!"

Yeah, me either. I just made it up, to go with my first post, in Month TWO of my "journey" with the Saturday Savers Club! 🥂

To celebrate, I dressed up my ☝️ piggy bank, for the occasion, ☝️ with a few coins. Because, yes, during my first month, I saved some!

🥂🥳🥂

With that, onward and upward! Into my weekly update ...

Weekly Update

With payouts from 3 posts, here is where I ended up this week ...

Source: @roleerob's spreadsheet for tracking 2024 progress

With HBD and EDSD both being more or less "stablish" coins, with a value of more or less $1.00, I was able to save another 25 EDSD and ~ 6.7 HDB. Or, almost $32.00 ...

Not too bad for a week!

Why HBD and (the linked ...) EDSD?

As the "stablish" token of our Hive blockchain, saving HBD with its 20% APR (some recent and informative posts here and here, on this topic) is self-explanatory. For now ...

As for EDSD, if you would like to learn more about this L2 token, here you go (click on image) ...

  • Weekly update closing note: Documenting my support for @edicted's witness, with the vesting shares under my control, after his post on HBD interest:

    Done @ ~ 5:00 p.m. on 18 Feb 2024 [UTC-7].

    • Please!  Please. Please ... DYOR, before making any decision like this for yourself.

Weekly Focus

As an OGish investor in our Hive blockchain, I have made no secret of some of my personal challenges with choosing to uhhh ... "engage." My time commitment constraints are challenging, but directly up to me to manage and resolve. Value destroying insanity like this is not ...

Leading me to the inevitable ...

"What are you doing 'in there,' @roleerob?" 🙄🤷‍♂️

Not a trivial question ... To me ...

________________________

With the above somewhat in the background, for now, my focus this week was on both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of my ... "engaging." While contemplating the results of my recent efforts ...

First, the comparatively easy one ...

Passive Income

At this stage of my life, successful in 5 different industries over a long professional career, what is my focus? Investing in opportunities for my hard-earned "money to make money" ...

    • While I focus the time I have left elsewhere ...

On our Hive blockchain, relatively easily done in more ways than one:

  • Power up and collect ... "interest" ... from the ... "printing" ... of more HIVE. Think HPUD!

  • Delegate your powered-up HIVE to all the various curating options available. Think @eds-vote!

  • Invest in various L2 tokens, e.g. EDS, which provide HIVE income. Think EDSD!

Each is probably pretty familiar to most, if not all, of my readers. Feel free to ask, in the comments below, if not.

So much for the quantitative aspects of my focus for the week ... How about the qualitative?

Adding Value

Whole posts (including some of my own ...) have been written on this, but suffice to say at the outset, I am most definitely not talking about "passive" income. No! No. No ...

It takes work in trading your time for income. And a lot of it ...

Brief points:

  • Not sure where to begin? DYOR (Do Your Own Research) into the efforts of others. And deciding what would work best for you, as you need to always "be yourself." Genuine. Sincere.

  • Apply all your DYOR lessons to adding value to the post of others. This requires no $$s. Just time ...

Gentle reminder: The universal "equalizer" => 24 / 7 / 365 is the same. For all of us ...

  • Develop a "pay it forward" mindset. "Give unto others" that it may eventually be "returned unto you" ... No guarantees, of that, of course ... Do it because it is simply the right thing to do.

________________________

Gentle encouragement: I write from experience, as you may wish to learn more about here, here and here, among others, about reality, hope, and encouragement.

In the latter, I closed with this:

"You just never know where one click on an upvote, mention in a post or reply, entry into a community's latest inspired effort to help others (all of the above!) will lead!"

I welcome any questions / comments / concerns, in the comments below.

Weekly Tip

Combining this above, with the image shown of my latest post, what does a ... "numbers guy" ... like me see? 1,031 accounts focused on "passive income." 14 accounts focused on "adding value."

Let's see ...

  • 14 ÷ 1,031 = 1.36% adding value, right? No ...

~ Half of those are my responses to others ...

  • 7 ÷ 1,031 = 0.68% adding value, right? Well ...

  • Of those, how many are truly adding value vs. "dumping" a quick 1 or 2 word response, hoping for a ... "hand-out?"  Who did not upvote your work ...

My associated "tip of the week:"

Invest your time into
the work of others to
add value to it!

How much is enough? Start with at least a 5:1 ratio of comments to posts. 10:1? Better still. Think about it, in the simplest terms. After your own perceived value in your own effort to publish a post, what does it mean to you? When like-minded Hivians "show up?"

WIIFM (What’s In It For Me)?

Why? You are working to ultimately
increase the value of your
own investment!

Food for thought, during the week in front of us? 🤝

Postscript to Week 5

It is with a heavy heart that I have to let my dear readers know this will likely be my last post for the Saturday Savers Club. In electing to begin posting again, after 1-½ years, my first post was to announce I was "signing up" here.

I want to stress my decision has nothing to do with any problems of any sort with our Club. To the contrary, in my introduction, I specifically cited the encouragement received from an exchange with @shanibeer and some other closely related factors for providing me the motivation needed.

To try again ...

Beyond that, just know it is a personal matter and that, for now, I prefer to keep it private. When the time comes, I may have more to say ...

    • There may be an understandable perception there is a ... "disconnect" ... between how this post began and the way it is ending. Yes, well ... My practice has long been to have most of what I intend to write prepared well in advance. You are now reading a case in point. One where I chose to leave it the way it was ...

I will still be around for a time, so if I can help you with anything, please don't hesitate to let me know.

All the best to you for a better tomorrow, as we all work together to build up our Hive Communities and add increasing value to our Hive blockchain! 👍 😊
