Today we will continue the series called "Canadian Wildlife".
The Royal Canadian Mint is known by its high quality work and the enormous number of commemorative coins issued each year. Among these commemoratives we find many, individual or in series, under the theme "wildlife".
Canada, with its vast lands and seas, is the home of a varied fauna and that will be showed in this series.
I will try to post land animals, sea animals and birds, in that order.
The forty second is a 2004 CAD $4 "Arctic Fox".
In 2004 the Royal Canadian Mint issued a set of four coins featuring wildlife designs that were originally created for platinum proof coins. It showed the "Arctic Fox" in four different sizes. This is the third.
It weights 7.775g with silver purity of 99.9% and Proof finish, with Frosted relief against a mirror background. The mintage was 14,566 units. The issue price of the set was CAD $89.95.
The Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus), also known as the white fox, polar fox, or snow fox, is a small fox native to the Arctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere and common throughout the Arctic tundra biome. It is well adapted to living in cold environments, and is best known for its thick, warm fur that is also used as camouflage.
Designed by Canadian artist Claude D'Angelo, the reverse features a couple of foxes.

Thanks for showing us the $4 Coin, ronavel. Maybe Canada is saying that Silver will never fall below $16.

I can't quite recall but was this coin part of a Set or series?
Yes, two series: one is the 1993 Arctic Fox platinum set and the other is the 2004 Arctic Fox silver set. Both have four coins with the same design, the difference being the material.

That makes sense, otherwise they would freeze to the ground...
