💰Money: Man’s Lingua Franca, Good or Bad?

I have yet to see a place on earth where there is no medium of exchange, even in the chronically remote areas; there is a currency to purchase or a trade by barter to secure one’s needs.

We can all agree that currency, a.k.a. money, is a relevant subject in all human society. Although it is represented in different colors, patterns, designs, and even value, it is still a legal tender in the current world today.

Lingua Franca connotes language that is widely acceptable in a given society. Taking the world we live in as a society, money in whatever form it is presented is widely acceptable in all the nooks and crannies of the earth.

When examining the effects of this reality, we can say that it has made many become greedy, hardworking, and resultantly wealthy either by truthful or fraudulent means.

The saying “money is the root of all evil” can otherwise be interpreted in our current world as money being the root of all good. Several infrastructures put in place by the governments of nations and other financial needs of every country are all rooted in the availability of funds.

When we say money is man’s Lingua Franca I believe this is relevant in all sectors, be it religious, economic, social, and others. You can’t perform your religious duties if you don’t have money; neither can you purchase nor fulfill social cravings and needs.

Maybe in a society other than what we currently have in our present dispensation, the relevance of money won’t be as important as life itself.

I have seen people who will never stop preaching about life, riches, and money as all being vanity, but after moving closer to them, I discover they don’t have the same perspective when it comes to spending money or management of their finances. They amass wealth, invest a lot, and enjoy only little.

After my personal research and observation, I discover that out of every ten people I have met who have the notion that ‘life is vanity’, only two actually believe and act based on their statement.

Several questions keep roaming my mind as an inquisitive being. I have been privileged to have access to data about life before there was anything like governance or rules and regulations.

In this said society, man was brutal, lawless, unkind to, and competitive with his fellow beings. Only the strongest gets what he wants; as long as you can overpower your opponent, you can possess whatever is theirs.

Afterwards came the era of social contract, where man decided to give all his powers and rights to a ruler in charge (the government), who will have power and authority over the rest and will oversee and ensure the fair sharing of goods and other materials.

Fast forward to the present world we live in. We can see the traces of this social contract idea in our present world, but the flaw of this is the inequitable distribution of wealth, a situation where only the ruling class gets the lion share while the minority are left to manage the leftovers.

Money being the present source of wealth, power, means of acquiring resources, and a limiting force for those who don’t have enough seems to be a questionable means of exchange, also considering the fact that one currency can appreciate against the other while having endless debates and data about different metrics to justify the cause.

Can we have a better and universal means of exchange other than money? Are the same problems encountered before the social contract era not repeating themselves and even worse off?

With a complex system and the presence of fraudulent individuals in government roles, can we curb the current issues money presents? My singular answer to these questions is yes, yes, it's repeating itself, and yes.

If morality is elevated and valued more than currency all over the world, then money being man’s Lingua Franca won’t be an issue.

We can have a better and universal new form of money. It's called Bitcoin.
