In Japan people take their shoes off when they enter a house. This was the same for me growing up, my mother was very adamant that we do that, but my brother always pissed her off by not listening.

it was also a thing while growing up in Nigeria, especially for kids that would go out to play with dirt all over. So to keep the house clean from sand, we were made to take it off

That's a good call. In the US and Japan kids don't usually run around without shoes, but I guess some might when their parents aren't watching

We do that too in Nigeria, especially from our parents and grandparents, but not anymore. The parental upbringing has changed a lot. Now people can walk in with shoes and wouldn't be considered an offense

Wow, it feels totally opposite from the US, since we are more and more mixed, certain habits become more widespread I guess?

I'm sure your grandma counters your brother's attitude with some hitting. Lol😄

lol different culture, my grandma just used to complain a lot about my mom, she didn't hit anyone. and my other grandma is a fun maniac who wants to skydive at 92 years old

sOunds so awkward

for real, as a Nigerian it doesn't sound awkward to me o, it's still a common practice these days
