I did a couple of transfers and felt a bit slow, but then I am use to 3 second blocks with no fees.

Blocks are not what determines finality. Dash has 1-2 second finality through a function called InstantSend, which deterministically settles every transaction instantly. So with in 2 seconds a Dash payment is more permanent and irreversible than a Bitcoin transaction will ever be.
Some services treat them like Bitcoin transactions and make you wait when you don't have to.
