My thoughts exactly.
My new pet hate is layer-2 projects counting HIVE blockchain rewards from curation as 'revenue'.
I would say, make a fun game first, financialize it later if you want. Splinterlands is the way, in my humble opinion.

The 1st packs of Steemmonster cards were just images no game play and they were selling them.
I mean, yeah ofc you got to bootstrap stuff. If all games turned out to be like Splinterlands I will be happy to experiment that :P
