Investing 2 ETH in Ethereum NFT projects #1: NFT Worlds

in LeoFinance3 years ago (edited)

A few months ago I 'found' 2 ETH in the wallet of an app I hadn't used for a long time. It was mind blowing, forgotten money worth 7k USD at the time, and the fact that it was that much money just thrown at me had me awake for a couple of nights at least.

It brought me back to exploring Ethereum again (for those that don't know me, I've been mostly active on Hive since 2017, less on Ethereum), and it was easy to get back on Crypto Twitter and find out how the NFT Space had been booming for a while. And so I began reading and researching...

And I started reinvesting the 2 ETH.

I have about 5 projects I'm very serious about and will write posts about them in the next few weeks. Today I publish part 1 of this series, starting with the project I might be most Bullish about. The project is called: NFT Worlds.

What is NFT Worlds?

Screenshot 2022-02-05 at 18.25.47.png

Well, that image says it all, or does it? 10000 virtual worlds, living on the Ethereum blockchain, and you can build on it. It's Minecraft compatible, massively multiplayer, developer API'ed, and decentralized.

But what does all that mean?

In my own worlds it means: you can build 'stuff' (houses, parks, casinos, race tracks, whatever you can think of) on your 'bought NFT World'. One NFT World is a huge plot of land, and you can sync it after you adapted it back to the blockchain (!), after which others can buy that 'upgraded world', or, in a few weeks time, pay rent to use the world (maybe you built a Zoo on top of it?), jump from World to World, have hundreds or thousands of people come visit your World or you can party with hundreds of others on a World, host your World on your own server...

Screenshot 2022-02-07 at 15.28.25.png

Currently the NFT Worlds seem to be very popular amongst the '10k PFP projects', also known as the NFT Communities popping up all over the Ethereum Blockchain, each building a 'hangout' for their community with their specific theme applied all over the world. It means 10k projects with each a few thousand users getting involved with NFT Worlds just because their community owns 1 World.

I personally can't wait for the moment we jump around from World 1 to World 2 to World 3 to enjoy pre-mint parties or global conferences... API's mean there are ways to build on top of the project with your own project adding interesting opportunities for growth in ways we haven't even thought of so far.

Let's shine some light on some of the specifics of the project.

10k worlds

Ten Thousand worlds is probably not going to raise any eyebrows amongst people who are known with the Ethereum NFT space. Most NFT projects today work with 10k 'mints', which seems to be a sweet spot between enough scarcity to scratch that collectables itch while also having a high chance of selling out with the current amount of people active in the NFT community. But this is a 'world project'. Which means: there will never be more than 10k worlds, adding scarcity, yes, but also important to know if you claim to build a 'world' or maybe even metaverse: is 10k worlds enough to build on top of?

That's a hard question to answer, and we need to compare it to 'other land projects' we know of. One example is The Sandbox Project, one of the OG land projects in the Ethereum NFT Space. It has been known for a while now that 1 of the 10k NFT Worlds can contain ALL of the Sandbox Land Plots.

Yes, 1 NFT World can absorb the whole OG Sandbox project, and there are 10k NFT Worlds. 1 Sandbox Plot is now (Feb 5th 2022) 'more or less' the same price as one NFT World floor. Makes you think...

At least it should make you wonder how big of an experience the NFT World project can become: 10k worlds is clearly HUGE and has a lot of potential to grow. And did the Developers rumour that Worlds could become fractionalized? Maybe 1 world can be rented out as x amount of land plots for someone to build on?

Rumours, rumours, but interesting thought experiments concerning the 'size' of the whole NFT World project.

Minecraft

Minecraft is a hugely popular game that has more than 141 million players all over the world. It's playable on/compatible with many platforms from Windows to Console systems, and is popular amongst all kinds of age groups and genders and countries. NFT Worlds basically uses Minecraft as a base for their worlds and the team has been in contact with Minecraft to check for possible legal issues on this, which are non-existent.

I'm not going to write a lot about Minecraft as Wiki and Youtube can tell you everything you want to know about it, but one thing is important: millions of players play this game daily, have been doing so for many many years, it has become a cultural phenomenon (my little niece likes to wear a creeper costume, for this in the know), and only the tiniest fraction of players currently know about NFT Worlds where they could potentially play to earn their favourite game. More about that later.

(PS: I have been a Minecraft player for months but then I decided to quit as it was too addictive and kept me from stuff I needed to do. It's sooo good to play Minecraft!)

Massively Multiplayer

Does it start to sound like a metaverse project already? Because that's what it is turning out to become.

The devs have done a few experiments already to test the waters of the potential amount of users 1 NFT World can handle. So far a test event, a scavenger hunt, and now a dedicated world where you can earn the in-game token have all been used to learn about the limitations of 'players per world'. So far about 400 people have been on 1 World at the same time, and the devs meanwhile tested in the background, by 'faking' a certain limit on these Worlds to see if playing with less capacity/more players a World would start lagging... These tests showed that there's a lot of room to grow. Not just that, the team has ideas on how to make the amount of players being able to play on a World basically limitless.

This is exciting, as, again to compare, on Sandbox about 40 people can play on 1 piece of land at the same time, again showing how much more NFT Worlds can handle.

Money Money Money

Although the devs, based in the US, only promised that '1 $Wrld = 1 $Wrld', meaning they don't aim to make the token used in-world count as 'money', the community knows better. And has been 'valuing' the dropped token through trading it.

The $Wrld token has been airdropped in December, as a part 1 of the Airdrop, based on the amount of NFT Worlds you own, the rarity of those worlds, and how long you had kept the Worlds in your wallet.

There will be a second (and last) big airdrop with the same metrics coming end of February. Currently I hold about 93k $Wrld valued at 20k USD. This is for a project I spent 2000$ on... Which is mindblowing. The idea that the airdrop will double in a few weeks time is just crazy.

But there's more.

More Money Money Money

After the two big airdrops there will be other ways to earn with the NFT Worlds. The worlds can be staked for $Wrld. The worlds can be rented out for $Wrld. You can maybe find ways to let people pay to enter your World buy letting them pay $Wrld. There will be ways to earn $Wrld that I haven't even thought of... There's already a twitter account dedicated to just share ideas for others to use with $Wrld and I'm excited of all the possibilities, especially the ones I haven't even thought of so far:

$Wrld - passive income goldmine

I will probably stake the three worlds I own, and expect something between 2-5k USD per month starting then.

Yes, read that again. 2000$ per month, very conservative guesstimate, for a project I spent 2000$ on.

I'm gonna cry now.

No gas!

Now, this is an interesting aspect of NFT Worlds. And I'm writing this on the Hive blockchain, but probably will have some Ethereum readers as well.

You can now send $WRLD on Polygon (Where our in-game transaction layer lives) to any address without paying any gas fees, no $Matic required - only $WRLD. The fee to send is currently set at a flat 1 $WRLD token, and that 1 $WRLD is deducted from the amount the recipient receives (Receiver fee).

If you're a Hive person: we already have known gasless / no fee transactions for everything we do, including games, from the start of our blockchain. But on Ethereum everything costs gas. So 'no gas transactions' is a huge thing for them and a huge accomplishment of the devs of NFT Worlds.

If you're an Ethereum person: yes, you read that right! Everything costs gas, but on NFT Worlds you will be able to transfer with no cost of gas within the game :-) The $WRLD token will exist on Polygon and no $Matic is needed for doing anything within the NFT World ecosystem :-) It's a huge accomplishment that we can thank @iamarkdev for <3 He's the man!

I want to stress how big of a deal this is. Completely gas-free requirements for all $WRLD utility means no friction for non-crypto gamers. Once our launcher with the integrated wallet is live, players literally do not have to understand a thing about crypto to earn, spend and use $WRLD token in NFT Worlds - no Metamask, wallet integrated directly in game, gasless because of our gasless system.

The end

Honestly, I don't know what else to write. This was the first project I invested in when I found my 2 ETH in a dusty dApp wallet. I saw Minecraft, I saw 'land', I had positive feelings regarding both Minecraft and Land, and I simply bought three worlds off the floor, one a little more above because it was a rare one.

I had no doubt that this could go somewhere and have been keeping an eye on the project since they. And what happened? More than I could even imagine when I bought the worlds. Several communities have already built worlds. You can currently play on an SMP server earning 20 $WRLD per hour, and I saw a parent quite their kids therefore chose NFT Worlds Minecraft/earning above playing in maybe 'cooler worlds' that didn't earn them a dime.

Kids already know!

image.png

I didn't know about staking, airdrops, monthly staking income... Or having the ability to rent out worlds, add P2E to your world, I had NO idea what this would become, and both the creativity as well as the skills of the dev team has blown my mind time and time again.

The team has been working hard, underpromising while overdelivering.

I haven't been as bullish on anything in a long long while and I just can't wait to see the post I write in 6 months time about where we stand then :-)

Are you with me?

I mean, the more I actually read, the more I get confused but then, the more excited I even become. You've actually put your 2 eth into good use. Imagine spending 2k$ and its x10 in just a few months. I've definitiely not hard of this project. But from what I know you love projects with great tokenomics and it's panning out rather nicely. The concept is mindblowing

Excitement is what I was aiming for, understanding only comes from trying it out by playing on a few worlds, and the check the projects Docs, and so on. It's hard to write posts like these, I'm so full of excitement but it's hard to dial back and start writing towards people who hear about it for the first time, lol! Yes, the tokenomics on this project are spectacular and there's something to get for everyone, if you're an investor, builder, or player. And we're just at the start <3

The gas fee will definitiely be exorbitant. You're definitiely right when it comes to the aspect of understanding. But I can actually see what you've been busy with for a few months now. Its actually productive, my plate is currently full of blockchain games, its very hectic. Hahah. Hope you're actually doing well, health wise?

Yes, it was really productive, but ofcourse still doing Splinterlands staking & renting as well :D Can't wait till Splinterlands land goes into action as well!

Hope you're actually doing well, health wise?

Thanks for asking! Doing well, preparing for a month out of my country starting next Thursday to see some more sun :D It's still rainy and cold over here in The Netherlands! How have you been doing? (I must admit I haven't read much blogs!)

being on ETH/Polygon i am not sure how much is recorded on the chain (as it would be really expensive) but it does look interesting. i am eth/polygon poor so i will only be visiting you in the future 😂

The Worlds are 'on chain', the playing itself would be hosted on decentralized servers, which is a whole topic on itself I guess :D The rest, like in-game buying/selling, will be dan without gas on Polygon, which is a 'layer' on Ethereum. It makes it very cheap actually!

Definitely come visit my Worlds, I will start by staking them, but who knows what I'll do with them in the future :D

Wow! Talk about a windfall! That is crazy! Congrats on finding that 2 ETH just laying around. Smart move using it to invest in something that might bring you a passive income. I haven't heard of this one, but I look forward to hearing about the other projects you invested in. I think moving into digital land is very smart. The things that have been happening with Sandbox and Decentraland are really exciting!

Yes, that was quite epic to have some money to play with all of a sudden! It has brought me a lot of opportunities as I've been so involved with Hive for so long I hadn't been keeping track with the whole NFT boom. Did some NFT stuff back in 2017/18, so it wasn't hard to get back in either :-)

Yes, digital land is the best play right now, NFT Worlds might become a yearly income type of thing, seen some people sell Sandbox for NFT Worlds already :D

Hope you're well! Cheers :D

That is awesome. I did most of my NFT stuff over on the WAX blockchain. I have a decent amount of holdings over there. I own land in a variety of different projects on WAX. Like yous said, some of them are even earning me a weekly income. Nothing I could live off of yet, but maybe one day.

Any land play can turn out to be an epic play because we're still 'so early' I think. Glad to hear you've been doing well yourself on Wax, to me that's a chain I don't use and might miss out on, but you can only focus on so much :-) It's been hard to keep up with everything!

I hear you!

He investor, als je nog wat zilver tegen HBD will omzetten kan dat bij mij. Een tiental hivers ging je al voor. Ik heb zat .999 puur zilver coins. Elk 25 HBD.

Joe! Niet momenteel, maar dank voor je aanbod, ik hou het in gedachten! Cheers :-)

Hey Rosa, good to see a post from you after a while :) Thanks for all the info, these projects sound very interesting and promising and I wish you the best of luck with your investments in them but I hope you will still stop by our community every now and then to drop some posts :)

Hey @phortun! :D Yes, it has been a while! Glad you liked the info :-) I'm very happy with the investments I've made, and have been studying HARD as well, so less time for Hive, but Hive will always be my home and first Crypto Love :-)

Next month I'm doing a little remote work/traveling in Portugal and I'm expecting to post a little more casual posts! <3

Hope you're well!

Sound nuts if you ask me and hope you do well.

It really IS nuts. The money flowing on Ethereum in general is a different kind of money.

I'm doing fine - hope you're very well too! <3

Reading this made me realize that is probably how my friends feel when I tell them about Hive and or Splinterlands. :) "I hear what you are saying, I just don't get it". Good for you. There is a whole new world to explore.

Hahaha, yes, projects we're part of make total sense once you're in it, for an outsider these things sound STRANGE! <3

I, as well, only sort of understand what this project is @soyrosa but I LOVE minecraft and I have to admit play almost daily. I have a time slot scheduled in my day for it. I have a realms account and just love building. To me minecraft is an architects/interior design dream so I just love building up houses and shops and towns and then filling them with furniture and things (I use CIT packs which enhances the look of the games not sure if such a thing could be use in these worlds)

How does one 'buy' a world and can you build straight away or do you need to pay to build?

Hey @donnadavisart! I'm not sure if I can help you get started, but DM me on Twitter if you want more info. I know a way to earn 20 WRLD token per hour so you can be part of the ecosystem. The Worlds themselves are 7 ETH right now which might be expensive, but I don't know if you own any ETH :-) If you do you can own your World and start building straight away. If not there will be other ways in the future to rent and build :-)

Anyway, let me know!

I will get in touch and I do have some ETH @soyrosa

Cool! My twitter username is asoryos if you're wondering where to reach me :D
