My cousin's on Instagram

in LeoFinance3 years ago

It's the funniest thing I've just proposed to sit myself down to try and write something on why I believe in HIVE to be the future of social media and that at the exact same moment I receive a text from my cousin replying to a message I had sent her earlier telling her precisely to go check what HIVE is all about.
"I'll do that," she said. This got me thinking.

My cousin is not into crypto, and she doesn't understand what a blockchain is. She will be, as I was and probably many others, confused if she decides to create an account. I can already see her asking me, "What are these so many keys I need to store safely? Why can't I just use my email as usual?"

Her normal social networking is limited to pretty much Instagram. Other than that, it's Whatsapp and that's it. As far as I know.

But she is keen on Instagram. Because she likes to travel and see new places, she likes sharing the experiences she has. She is attentive to detail. She seeks a setting, and she even goes the extra mile of making some prop arrangements for her posts on special occasions.

Now, you can see she could perhaps be suited to provide something on HIVE that someone, somewhere, would maybe be likely to appreciate, right? I mean, there are a ton of similar posts out there that are doing well, at least. And she seems to be naturally attentive to many of the things the curators advise. Give her time and consistency, and I don't see why she wouldn't be a thousand times better with HIVE than with Instagram.

But here's the thing; I've had this problem before. It's not going to be easy to convince her to make the shift. One needs to explain the differences in between being on HIVE and being on Instagram to someone who doesn't know the slightest thing about blockchains and comes from a way of thinking that still relies on the old systems of doing things and thinks they just work fine. Not well, but fine, at least for her -- she's settled on Instagram, and she doesn't need to move, in her eyes. Let's put it that way.

A friend of mine keeps repeating that it takes a deep distrust in governments to embrace cryptocurrencies, to which I am agreeing more and more as time goes by. But I reckon my cousin doesn't have as much distrust on the government as she might fear what her life would be without the guidance of said government. And this is a barrier. Mostly to her, but to everything.

So my question is, how do you board these people on to crypto and broaden their horizons? What magical words can we use to whisper them into the new lands of the blockchain? How are you boarding your own kin?

I'd really love to hear some thoughts, as I now have to not just convince my cousin to join HIVE, but I also have to find a good excuse to be writing about her without her knowing and even using her photos on this post ^^

Haha, that's what I am trying to get her to sign up to ^^
