Every first of the month is Hive Power Up Day where people are encouraged to show confidence in this platform by committing some of their funds to Hive Power where it is locked up for 13 weeks. By doing this they can take part in the distribution of rewards whilst earning from curation.
There are prizes to be won by those who power up, but I an ineligible by being a bigger account. I still do it anyway as there are badges to be had!
Today I added about 1% to my stake. That does not sound a lot, but it is much more than I have added in previous months.
I was able to do this mainly thanks to the ridiculous rise of Dogecoin based on memes and celebrity endorsements rather than actually being useful. Some years ago I was playing around with faucets to see what I could get. I had amassed some DOGE in a MultiDoge local wallet, but it was only worth a few cents back then. I checked on it a few weeks ago and found that what I had was worth a few hundred dollars! Extracting it was not as simple as I hoped. MultiDoge has not been updated in years and was looking like it could take weeks to update the local data. With help from people including @the-bitcoin-dood I found Dogechain that allows you to access a wallet. As soon as I unlocked it I was offered the option to transfer it elsewhere. I used BlockTrades to convert it to HIVE.
I was also reminded by @slobberchops that I had some Obyte thanks to an airdrop for Steem users some years ago. I know some people did really well from the referral scheme that used. I sold some of what I got, but the rest was locked up for a year. Recently the price was well up and I was able to use their app to extract my funds to Bittrex where I had to make a new account as I had not used it before. It is one of the exchanges that handles Obyte. Again I sold for HIVE.
In addition to all that I won some HBD from @nathanmars via Twitter to enable this substantial power up.
As the HIVE price had been going up I was not expecting to be able to buy much, but these windfalls changed that. I am not expecting to be so lucky in future.
Hive will only succeed if we believe in it and commit to improving it. You can be part of that success.

I am in the same boat as you. Well it wasn't faucets with me, it was left over money after a trade. But I figured why not throw a few bucks in doge. I liked the memes and the playfullness of the community, so I thought it might be fun to have, just to say I have some or maybe just to tip people with or something. Then boom, just like that a few bucks is now a few thousand bucks.
I took a lot out and put it into cub finance. I should take the rest out too and put it into HIve like you have, but part of me thinks I am already ahead so why not see if Elon really can push doge to a dollar.
There must be a few DOGE millionaires now. We shall see if it lasts.

I sold all my STEEM ages ago and it helped me get to orca. There's all sorts of challenges going on, but you have to follow the right people to hear about them. I'm not convinced HPUD makes that big a difference to the markets though.

I have all the bees except for the lat level, and that needs 1000 to power up, but I will get there, I am working on trying to get enough H-E token drips to get it by years end, H-E tokens was how I got to the 500 bee last years.
I get a fair bit in tokens, but I stake a lot of that to keep earning. It all adds up to a fair bit.
I'm still working on my five year plan, I still have 1 year and a few months to go. I was somewhat concerned with the Split from steem and almost rethought my plan but am still holding to it for now. The plan is to figure out how to extract crypto to fiat and to change fiat to crypto at that point. Until then it is just save hive and play in the H-E playground.

I think it was called Byteball. They had an account @byteball.org. I had a backup of the wallet that I was able to load into the app.
Ah. That's right. Byteball. I remember now.
I don't remember taking any backups though. 😢

Awesome! I'm actually considering dumping more of my doge myself as I for sure don't see it being a serious crypto ever. Better to take some profits in inject it into a platform I believe in.

Yeah that's what I do now. I had this locked usb drive and forgot the password 😖. I think it was on that. If not it is printed and in my filing cabinet so that's a whole other task 🤣
I think I had a Bitcoin wallet that I may have lost the key for, but there can't have been much in it. I'm sure I read that about 10% of all Bitcoin is effectively lost.

Yeah, I think I remember reading that, I found an old metamask when hooking up cubdefi with like 50 bucks, I think was likely worth pennies when I left it in the wallet😂.

I sold one of my Bitcoins a good while back, when the price was around $5,000 USD. I converted to HIVE and powered up (Not on PUD day .. Should have waited but was too excited). Then Bitcoin decided to go on a nice HUGE run (I cry.. cry cry cry) hehe.. Who cares right? It was for the love of HIVE!!!

I have missed out on some smaller wins, but such is life. You have to pick your time to trade and sometimes it's wrong. Have to move on. I hope we will really have our day with HIVE. With this community we have great potential.
