RE: Decentralization And Web 3.0 Will Take Over

in LeoFinance2 years ago

I remember when Web 3.0 meant the semantic web where data would be encoded into the web so that any app could use it. This was something Tim Berners-Lee pushed a lot. Unfortunately the trend was towards private data silos. Now the decentralised web may be opening things up again. Anyone can read from the Hive blockchain and build on it.

I really think we ought to be engaging more with the open source community. Something like Hive ought to be a natural home for them, but I know a lot are sceptical of crypto. Hive is built on open source, so that should at least interest them. The internet was built on open standards such as http and email, but things have gotten more proprietary.

I have been playing with Mastodon, which is open source. I found Dave Winer (the father of RSS) on there. I made him aware of Hive, but I don't know if he's looked into it.

What you say is true and shows how elusive all of this is. It is a fact that we will only know what this is in hindsight. At present, we are speculating what things will look like.

As for my view, I try to point out components that are essential, based upon values or tenets. Right now the focus is upon account ownership and decentralization. There is certain room for privacy along with the idea of open source software.

The web is still new really. People are still exploring what it can be. Hive and other blockchains offer alternatives. They show it doesn't have to be driven by corporations.
