I still use email a fair bit, even have several different email addresses for different purposes (i.e one for things i sign up to and am not really sure if i'll stick with that service - this is also my spam catcher address).
One thing that always struck me as odd or funny, though it doesn't happen as often these days, is the e-mail i got from friends, who then proceeded to call or text and ask if i got the e-mail.
Personally, I think despite the instant messaging services out there, e-mail will be with us for a long time to come yet. !hivebits
