Creation of the State of Maharashtra
India gained independence in 1947. After the independence of India, provinces were being formed according to language. But the Indian government refused to form a state of Maharashtra including Mumbai. Marathi-Janat agitation arose from this sanctity of the center. Finally, after the sacrifice of 105 people, on May 1, 1960, the present major geographical division of Maharashtra, Konkan, Marathwada, Western Maharashtra, South Maharashtra, North Maharashtra, Vidarbha was merged to form the present Marathi speaking Maharashtra.
Since the 19th century, various Marathi political leaders, social activists and society have made significant contributions to social evolution and political independence. The United Maharashtra Movement of the 1960s brought together different geographical parts of Maharashtra. In the post-independence period, the politically successful co-operative movement and the mastery of ethnic mathematics dominated the Congress party government.
The Maratha community and Western Maharashtra have always been at the forefront of the political equation. Mr. य. On The historian Phadke has taken an enlightening look at the history of post-independence Maharashtra.
