This is a post that I expected to have out yesterday, but I quickly learned that my organizational skills and ability to stay focused are an issue.
I went digging through a few of my boxes of Baseball cards and started separating the coveted rookies from the maybe-good rookies. I'm only part way through, but I decided to pick a couple of cards that I am tracking for increase in sales.
We're going to look at two different rookies that I'm tracking. If you're looking to getting into sports cards, buying packs and placing the rookie cards you find in protective sleeves is the easiest way to ensure you may have some future growth. The other thing you want to do is start tracking your cost basis on acquiring the cards. Unfortunately, I didn't do that at all. I will from here on out. So unless noted, I have zero idea what my ROI on these may be.
One final note, I am tracking PSA grade 9 on these. My cards are raw (ungraded), but if the value of 9 and 10 increases, I will have them sent out to be graded and slabbed. I feel like I can assume a score of 9 on what I own, but I can't assume 10 even though I believe some of these will grade that high.
Rookie Number 1
The first Rookie card I'm keeping an eye on is from the 2020 Topps series 1 base set: Bo Bichette
I'm holding 6 of these in my hand and I'm feeling pretty good about his ability to improve and be a star in baseball. He is starting his sophomore campaign in baseball, which will be his make or break year as far as future value goes.
Over the last 3 months, this card has seen an approximate 159.67% rise in value from its low of $10.59 to a current price of $27.50
Rookie Number 2
The second rookie card I'm tracking is from the 2019 Topps Series 2 set: Fernando Tatis Jr.
This man is already a superstar in the sport by starting his first 2 years meeting and exceeding expectations. I expect this one to continue to rise. He's a superstar on a World Series caliber team, he's already a household name, and he plays a position that garners a ton of attention. I own a dozen of these plus a few rarer variations of this card.
In the last three months this card has increased 186.20$ from a low of $29.00 to a current price of $83
My outlook:
I look for the Bichette to rise about 81% to a PSA 9 price of about $50 this season.
I can easily see Tatis continuing his rise as a bona-fide star barring injury, I can see a $250 price point this season.

Does it matter what brand the cards are?
It all depends, in Baseball Topps to be the Brand, but in the '90s there were other companies making cards.
