There was an update put out yesterday by the @threespeak team that I found to be very exciting. We see a number of features added which look to improve the user experience. There is also a major upgrade that is in keeping with their views on being censorship resistant and having immutable videos.
In this article, I will cover a few of the features that I found to be very useful.
The first is the ability to schedule when videos post. This is a feature that could really help those who do "shows" where they want the video to go live at the same time each day or week.
Another big upgrade is now the ability to post from mobile phones. This is an enormous step forward since most people access the Internet via mobile as opposed to PC or laptop. We also know that more "filming" is done on mobile phones, opening up another avenues for 3Speak users. This follows up the last update which included a section for shorter videos (those only a few minutes in length).
Both of these will help the user experience.
In the quest for immutability and censor resistance, all videos posted will now be available for download using torrent.
For those too young to remember, this was one of the original ways files were shared a couple decades back. Applications such as Limewire and Kazaa were torrent sites that allows people to seed files to the network. Essentially, a torrent is just data that tells of the location of the file. Since it is on computers throughout the world, what is sought is seeded by many different computers.
This is not the model for efficiency. There are many variables that go into the download times. One of the biggest is the number of computers a file is on AND how many are online when one is searching. Back in the day, it was not uncommon for files to take a few days to download if there were not a lot of computers seeding what was sought after.
What is lacks in efficiency, it makes up for in security and immutability. It is possible for a file to be seeded by hundreds, if not thousands of computers on a network. Music files often fell under this category as popular songs were spread throughout the network. Thus, there was no central server to go after for hosting the files.
Naturally, many of these sites were shut down due to copyright infringement. Nevertheless, even though the torrent sites were vulnerable, the files themselves could not be removed.

3Speak is a front end that is accessing all that is uploaded. For the time being, it is still a bit centralized. While the move to include torrents helps a great deal, there is still a single point of access with the platform.
In reading the road map in the past, it was explained how this is going to be resolved. Eventually, the goal is to have each channel as its own "3Speak". In other words, each channel will become a single platform when, combined with its own token, will be able to operate as its own standalone network. Of course, this still will be tied into a bigger system, thus provided a "mesh-effect".
How would something like that work?
Consider someone who is targeted by YouTube who has a large following because he has the ability to upset a great many people. In this example, a guy like Alex Jones fits the criteria.
He was able to amass a rather large following yet his behavior did not fit into YouTube's Terms of Service. Ultimately, he could set up camp on 3Speak which promotes free speech where the Alex Jones Channel would become its own ecosystem. His videos could never be taken down and his followers could relish in all that he has to talk about.
The Alex Jones token could be created to reward those who were active on the site, helping to create an economy for "Alex-Speak". Jones would have his own video hub where he answered to nobody except his followers.
Of course, the Anti-Alex Jones folks could set up their own hub stating their case as to why what Jones spews is rubbish. Each side is free to get out whatever they wanted without fear of being censored or having their views taken down by some centralized entity.
This opens up the door for individuals to look at both sides of the equation and decide for themselves where the truth lies. If what someone like Jones says is asinine, then that is the conclusion people will reach.
Contrast this with how things operate today. We see a great deal of "programming" as Facebook and YouTube promote a certain agenda where some points of view are totally erased from their platforms. Anything that goes contrary to the viewpoint being presented is quickly isolated and removed.
It is now the control system thrives and keeps people enslaved. We are rapidly getting to the point where questioning what is taking place will get you removed from sight. After all, they cannot a bunch of free thinkers running around.
3Speak is looking to alter this in a big way. While most do not seem to care about this, it becomes more important as more people's viewpoints are removed from the social media sites.
Based upon the actions of YouTube and Facebook, it seems that list is only growing each week.
Another step forward for the 3Speak team and the entire Hive ecosystem.

The scheduling of post and the mobile version are the best features for me
This is what will really help getting started, bonus if totally decentralized!
